Frequently Asked Questions

What is Konstella's mission?

Konstella's mission is to help parent organizations build private and close-knit parent communities. We do that in two ways.
First, we streamline communications between PTO/PTAs, Room Leads, and parents. We save time for parent leads by helping them create and manage posts — sign-ups, polls, collections, announcements, and more — at all levels (school-wide, classroom-wide, and committee-wide). By giving parents a one-stop place to browse all posts and volunteer opportunities, we make parent organizations relevant and transparent.
Second, we help parents bond with each other. Social Groups are interest-based groups that allow parents to connect with each other around shared interests — from playdates to hiking clubs — helping build a closer community.
With a stronger parent community, engagement goes up and volunteer recruiting becomes easier.

Why should I use it?

If you organize activities for your school, or if you are a room lead who organizes activities for your classroom, Konstella saves you time by providing tools to create and manage different types of posts.
If you are a parent who does not organize school activities, Konstella gives you a one-stop place to find out what's happening at your school and in your classroom. Konstella also connects you with other parents via Social Groups and messaging — whether you want to organize playdates, share local tips, or find other parents with common interests, it's easy to connect.

Does Konstella cost anything for parents?

Konstella is free for parents. There is no charge to register, join your school community, or use any of the features available to parents.
Konstella is funded through school and district subscriptions. If your school is on Konstella, your access as a parent is included at no cost.

In Konstella, what are the different types of roles a parent can have? What are the privileges?

A parent can have one or more of the following roles:
  • Konstella Admin
  • Group (Room/Committee/Social Group) Lead
Konstella Admin - A Konstella Admin can create classrooms, edit student information, approve join requests, remove users from the school, assign school and classroom leads, and configure school-wide settings such as the school address.
Group Lead - Generally, a group lead can manage the group, including adding/removing people from the group, and creating and managing posts for the group. However, Social Group Leads cannot add/remove/invite others to the group.

What are the different types of roles a school staff can have? What are the privileges?

A user with the staff role automatically becomes a teacher of the room when they join a room. A teacher of a room can manage the room and create posts for the room.

Can I hide my personal information from other parents in my school?

We understand that you trust us by registering at Konstella and sharing your child's information with us. We respect your privacy.
School-based parent communities are all private on Konstella. No one outside your school will have access to your information.
If you would like to hide your email address, home address, or phone number from other parents in your school, you can do so on your Settings page. You can also control photo sharing and other privacy options on the Privacy Settings page. Please keep in mind that even when you choose to hide your information, your school's Konstella Admins will always have access to it.

How do I add or update my child's information?

You can add or update your child's name, classroom, and other details from your Children Settings page. Keep this information current so that your child appears in the correct classroom directory and you receive the right classroom announcements.
If your child moves to a new classroom or school, update their information promptly so your access and notifications reflect the change.

Can I be a member of more than one school?

Yes! If you have children at different schools, or if you are involved with multiple schools, you can belong to more than one school community on Konstella. Simply join the schools using the same account (email address).
On the web, click on the school links on the left-hand navigation to browse different schools of yours. On the mobile app, you can switch between schools from your profile or settings screen.

Who are my school's Konstella Admins?

You can find your school's Konstella Admins on your school's Directories page in the app.

What are the different types of posts that leads can create?

Once you've been given classroom or school lead privileges by your school's Konstella Admin, you can create:
  • Events — One-time or recurring, with or without RSVP.
  • Sign-up Sheets — One-time or recurring sheets for volunteers to claim jobs or shifts.
  • Announcements — Short messages or full newsletters with embedded images and links.
  • Preference Sheets — Typically used at the start of the school year to collect parents' availability and job preferences. For example, if your classroom has 10 jobs available, you can ask parents for their preferences on back-to-school night and assign them later.
  • Sales — Sale items such as t-shirts and memberships
  • Donations — Run direct donations on Konstella. Parents can donate once or schedule monthly donations.
Based on your roles, you can create posts for your schools, classrooms, and committees.

How do I report inappropriate content?

If you see a post or message that you believe is inappropriate or violates your school's community guidelines, contact your school's Konstella Admin directly. Admins have the ability to remove posts and messages.

How do I join a committee?

Committees are groups organized around a specific school function, such as a fundraising committee, a hospitality committee, or a school event team. Each committee has its own chat room and posts.
Any parent can join a committee on their own. Here's how:
  1. Click the Committees link on the left-hand side navigation.
  2. Browse the list of committees at your school.
  3. Click on the committee you'd like to join.
  4. Click the Join button to become a member.
Once you join, the committee will appear in your navigation and you will receive its posts and messages.

What are the different ways that parents in my school can join Konstella?

For your child's safety and privacy, we do our best to make sure everyone in your school community on Konstella is a verified parent at your school. We also confirm each parent's email address during registration to ensure school and classroom announcements reach them. There are three ways parents can join your school community on Konstella:
  • Click the Invite button on the top menu bar to invite parents by email. They will receive an invitation through which they can register and join your school.
  • Parents can visit Konstella's home page and click "Request to Join." Once approved by your school's Konstella Admin, they will receive an invitation email to complete registration.
  • A Konstella Admin can generate an invitation code from the Manage School page and post the printed poster at school events such as Kinder Orientation or Principal's Coffee. Parents follow the instructions on the poster to register on their mobile phones.

How do I use the invitation code?

Konstella Admins can generate an invitation code to allow parents to quickly register at school events. Here's how it works:
  1. A Konstella Admin generates an invitation code from the Manage School page ahead of the school event. For security purposes, invitation codes are valid for 7 days.
  2. The Konstella Admin downloads the generated PDF and prints it as a poster or banner.
  3. At the event, parents scan or follow the instructions on the poster to download the Konstella mobile app, enter the code, and verify their email address to complete registration.

Can I access Konstella on my phone or tablet?

Can I sync Konstella events with my phone's calendar?

To sync an event, open the event detail in the mobile app and tap the option to add it to your calendar.

How do donations and school sales work?

Konstella supports online fundraising and school sales directly within the app.
  • Donations — School leads can create donation campaigns for fundraisers. Parents can make secure online donations directly or schedule monthly donations from the web or mobile app using a credit card.
  • Sales Sheets — School leads can create sales sheets to collect orders and payments for items such as school merchandise, spirit wear, or event tickets. Parents can browse items and pay securely online.
All payments are processed securely through Stripe and deposited immediately to your parent organization's account. Organizers can view and manage donations and orders from the post management page.

Is Konstella available in other languages?

Yes! The Konstella website is integrated with Google Translate and supports 100+ languages while the Konstella mobile apps are available in 11 languages, including:
  • English
  • Spanish
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Vietnamese
  • Tagalog
  • Chinese (Simplified and Traditional)
  • Arabic
The app will use your phone's language setting automatically if a translation is available. For example, if the user's phone is in Chinese, the Konstella app is automatically in Chinese.

How do I manage my notification settings?

You can control how and when Konstella notifies you from your Notification Settings page. Notification preferences include:
  • Email notifications — Choose which types of updates you receive by email, such as new posts and direct messages.
  • Push notifications — Enable or disable push notifications on your mobile device. You can also manage notification permissions directly in your phone's system settings.
If you are not receiving notifications you expect, check that push notifications are enabled for Konstella in your phone's settings, and that your email address on file is correct. Please also check the Settings app on your phone and make sure your phone allows Konstella to deliver notifications to you.

How do I use private messaging and chat?

Konstella supports two types of messaging:
  • Group Chat — Every classroom, committee, and social group has its own chat room. All members of that group can send and receive messages in real time. Access group chats from the left navigation panel or from the Konstella mobile app.
  • Private Messages — You can send a direct message to any parent in your school. Click on a parent's name in the Directory or in a group to start a private conversation.
Chat is available on both the web and the mobile app. Messages sent while you are offline will be delivered as push notifications.

What are Social Groups?

Social Groups are informal, interest-based groups that parents can create and join outside of the official classroom and committee structure. Examples include Playdates for younger grades, Hiking Parents, Book Clubs, or any other community interest.
Any parent in the school can create a Social Group and invite others to join. Like classrooms and committees, Social Groups have their own chat room and posts.
Unlike Committee Leads, Social Group Leads have limited privileges — they cannot add or invite parents to the group. Anyone can discover and join a Social Group on their own.
Social Groups are available on both the web and the Konstella mobile app.

How do I transfer my admin or lead role to someone else?

Transferring the admin role — A Konstella Admin can assign the admin role to another parent from the Manage School->Leads page. If you are the only admin and need to step down, please assign a replacement admin first before removing your own role.

All communications between your devices and our servers are encrypted with SSL. Our servers are hosted on Amazon Web Services for additional security and reliability.
