Hello all,
Tomorrow in honor of Ruby Bridges Walk + Bike to School Day, there will be a special edition of our Walking + Bike Buses, which will end at Ladds Circle in time for the event ! Both buses will be moving rain or shine. Please note the earlier departure times!
Walking Bus:
- Departs from SE 32nd + SE Lincoln at 7:15am.
Bike Bus:
- Both Clinton and Lincoln/Harrison routes will depart from their usual starting points at 7:20am.
On a different note, there have been some concerns and questions regarding the Konstella message that went out last night that contained chants for our Ruby Bridges celebration alongside info around ICE reporting procedures. Please read below for a clarification message from Ruby Bridges organizer, Destinee:
Dear Abernethy Families,
I wanted to take a moment to clarify some confusion about a recent handout and to reassure everyone that there is no ICE activity anticipated or associated with the Ruby Bridges Walk & Bike to School Day tomorrow.
The additional information shared was simply part of my broader Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) work to help families access important community resources and educational materials. My goal is always to support and uplift all of our families and ensure everyone feels informed, safe, and included.
Our Ruby Bridges Walk & Bike to School Day is a celebration of courage, kindness, and unity — honoring Ruby Bridges, who at just six years old helped pave the way for equality in education. We’ll be walking together as a school community to celebrate her legacy and our shared commitment to inclusion.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm — it’s been wonderful seeing so many families and students getting involved and creating such positive energy around this event!
Warmly,
Destinee Alexander - Abernethy PTA DEI Chair
