What is Carnival?
Carnival is a beloved school tradition and HUGE celebration for Abernethy students and the wider community. It officially kicks off with the sound of the bell at 5:30p for all families and ends with the sound of the bell at 8p. Families can enjoy traditional carnival games and prizes, inflatable obstacle courses, musical cakes, face-painting, balloon animals and a photo booth. Food trucks offer a selection of food and treats. Grab your dinner from a food truck, have a seat at the nearby tables or feel free to bring picnic blankets and chairs for lounging in the grassy area. A flat fee is charged for kids admission, which buys each participant a wristband and allows kids to move freely between games and activities all night long. Wristbands do not cover fairy hair but do cover the rest of the games and activities.
What is the pregame from 5-5:30p?
This year is our 3rd annual Carnival pregame! The pregame is for kiddos in 2nd grade and younger only. The games and a few inflatables will be open as well as cake a palooza in the auditorium. This allows the younger kids the opportunity to check out the Carnival without the craziest of the older, more seasoned kiddos.
Do adults need a wristband?
Adults DO NOT need to purchase a wristband. We need you to supervise the games as a volunteer! Volunteer using this link or scanning the volunteer QR code on the posters around school or flyers being sent home.
How do I buy and pick up a wristband?
Wristbands can be purchased online using a credit card by using this link or by scanning the QR on the poster. They can also be purchased at the school gazebo using CASH ONLY before and after school May 12 – May 15. Wristbands purchased online can be picked up from the gazebo during the before/after school times as well. Before school schedule May 12-15th is 7:45a-8:15a. After school May 12-14th will be from 2:20p-2:50p. On May 15th wristbands will be for sale and/or pick up from the gazebo starting at 2:30p-7p.
What if I need financial assistance?
We want EVERY child to enjoy carnival regardless of ability to pay!! Please contact counselor, Jenny Morgan, if you or someone you know is in need of financial assistance: jmorgan1@pps.net
When do I get my wristband?
Wristbands can be picked up in the gazebo either before and after school May 12-14 and in before school on May 15. Sales will re-open during the Carnival.
Does the carnival wristband cover food?
In addition to unlimited games and activities, admission wristbands allow each child one cotton candy, one popcorn and one donut. Wristbands DO NOT cover food purchased from third-party vendors, such as pizza or burgers. Wristbands also do not cover Fairy Sparkle hair services.
What food will be available?
We have a new food truck line up for 2026 including Stoopid Burger (burgers), ASH Woodfired Pizza (slices and salads) and our old pals at Brain Freeze Shaved Ice will return to keep us cool.
Where can I buy a 2026 Carnival tee?
Own your very own piece of Carnival with a commemorative shirt. The online store will be open 5/1-5/17 and your shirt will be delivered the last week of school directly to your kid’s backpack.
Where do Carnival proceeds go?
Carnival's primary function is to bring our community together to celebrate. It is not a traditional fundraiser. The carnival committee does its best to price wristbands appropriately to cover expenses of the event itself. Any additional proceeds go directly to the PTA general fund where they are used to enhance school programs.
How can I help make Carnival a success?
Carnival is a true community event and relies heavily on parents and community participation. Consider volunteering to help set up, run a carnival game, bag up popcorn, or sell wristbands. Sign-up by scanning the QR code on the carnival flier or clicking this link.
If you aren’t able to volunteer, consider dropping off a store-bought cake or baked good for the VERY POPULAR musical cake-a-palooza. Donations will be collected in the office or room 3 the day of the event. Questions about cake-a-palooza? cake@supportabernethy.org
For any other general questions, please contact your fabulous Carnival Committee members: Liz Dome, Mandy Brigham, Stacey Milton, Beth Mikkleson, Destinee Alexander, Nick Dome, and Mercedes Callahan at: carnival@supportabernethy.org
We are so excited to celebrate our community with your families May 15th!
