Dear Families of Adams Elementary,

On behalf of the PTA Executive Team, welcome back to a brand new school year! If you're newly joining our Adams community, we're thrilled you're here. The PTA supports every student and family, so please don't hesitate to reach out — we're eager to listen and learn how to better advocate for our school and for you.

Every year, the PTA purchases classroom supplies for every student, and this year is no exception. As in previous years, you have the option to contribute $30 per child to reimburse the PTA for these supplies. 

On Friday, you received an email about teacher assignments; please add your child to their new teacher's classroom within the Konstella app (directions sent via Konstella). 

This year, the PTA is adding some new features and events:

• Monthly Coffee & Community Chats: BYOCoffee and hang out after drop-off to socialize.

• Principal Round Table Talks: Held every other month and grouped by grades (K–2 and 3–5). These informal, small-group discussions are a great opportunity to meet with Ms. Jones and learn grade-specific information. Dates will be shared in our weekly newsletters, the monthly Eagle Flyer, and on Konstella — another reason to register! The first will be scheduled for October.

• New school colors on display: Did you know Adams has official school colors? Green, White, and Marigold Yellow will start showing up across our school materials this year.

• A refreshed PTA website: Currently in the works. Check out our new logo below!

Last year saw Mr. Sohn leaving Adams, and we welcomed Ms. Jones into our school community. Principal Jones has already made a strong impact: among other things, she's initiated a playground refresh, moved the music teachers into the main building, and conducted an organizational overhaul of the school interior. On the first day, be sure to check out the shiny new Adams Elementary sign above the front door. We're looking forward to a great partnership this year with our school administration. 

Last year, the PTA won a Washington State PTA Gold Membership Award for our large increase in membership over the prior year. Let's do it again! Please consider renewing your membership now. Individual membership is $16, dual membership is $27, and scholarships are always available at no cost.

Dates of Note: 

• Meet Your Teacher Open House, August 31st, 3-4pm. In light of the possibility of a strike, the kindergarten classrooms WILL be open for students to visit. If the strike moves forward, this may be the only time the incoming kindergarteners get to visit their classroom before the start of school. The open house is for grades K-5.

• The first PTA Board meeting will be held Tuesday, September 15th at 6:30 PM.

• The Fall PTA General Meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 28th. Doors open at 6:00 PM, with pizza and childcare provided; the meeting begins at 6:30 PM. Active membership is required to vote.

• PTA Coffee & Community will be Wednesday, September 30th at 8 AM, on the school playground directly after drop-off.

• Adams Fall Launch Party, Friday, September 18th (timing and details tentative). With school back in session, the PTA and Adams staff are collaborating to host a Fall party, complete with a mobile science lab from Pacific Science Center, a kickball tournament on the lower field, and popsicles for all.

There are many ways to get involved, and we're so grateful for our many volunteers — our school is strong because of you. We are looking for a few individuals to join our PTA team. Please note: all positions can be filled as co-chairs or a team! Contact execteam@adamselementary.org for more information.

• Big Give Coordinator: Coordinates efforts for our largest fundraiser, in conjunction with the PTA Treasurer and Fundraising Chair.

• Social Media Coordinator: Manages all content and posts on the Adams PTA social media pages.

• Weekend Food Coordinator: Pick up food at the Ballard Food Bank and deliver to Adams each Thursday, for students to receive weekend food assistance.

• Literacy Officer: Facilitates Book Bounce and the Book Fair, researches literacy opportunities for Adams, such as inviting authors to the school and working with librarian.

• Arts at Adams Officer: Manages the PTA Reflections contest and coordinates Art From the Heart, meets monthly as part of the Adams Arts team. Lots of area for growth!

• Grade Rep, 3rd Grade: The Grade Representative serves as a liaison between families, teachers, and the PTA Board, and work with Class Parents to promote school events, fundraisers, and staff appreciation.
