NEW! Principal’s Message
Dear Addison Families,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break with time to spend with loved ones and relax. The period between Thanksgiving and the December holiday is one of my favorite times of year when I have the opportunity to reflect on the past year, slow down, and appreciate all the blessings in my life. Thanks to all the families that participated in the Family Giving Tree gift drive. I’m always so proud and grateful for the generosity of our community.
I spent the majority of this past week in So. CA with an instructional team from the District Office. We visited schools in Chula Vista, Redondo Beach, and Palos Verde to learn about innovative and strategic district and site initiatives to address the needs of struggling learners. We took the opportunity to analyze data across many subgroups in order to identify focus areas and consider next steps. Furthermore, I gained a lot of great ideas regarding how to create opportunities for increased collaboration between our site Specialists, Aides and Classroom Teachers so that we are coordinated and intentional about how to support the growth of every child. It was a wonderful opportunity to confirm which practices at Addison are strong and where we might grow.
During the next two weeks before Winter Break, we will be preparing to move into the new two-story administrative and library building. The movers are set to pack up our office and library Dec. 20-23 and I am coordinating a schedule with all the individuals moving in to the new building to unpack during the Winter Break. We will be ready to serve students and families from our new office and library when we return from Winter Break on Jan. 7!
I will be sending more detailed information and maps out to families regarding the transition and access points to the new building. When we return from Winter Break, the current administrative building and library will be fenced off in order to start construction on four new classrooms. These classrooms and the new MP room are still projected to be completed by June 2020 so that we can move into our final phase of construction this summer which includes removing the portable classrooms and upgrading our outdoor landscape and playground.
It has taken a lot of time to plan this transition and related logistics but I’m very excited to finally share the new building with the school community! It is beautiful, functional, and flexible in order to serve the varying needs of our students.
Finally, our custodian, Lina, is taking a well deserved vacation time this month. Therefore, please welcome our substitute day custodian, Jorge Lazo, who will be with us during the next couple weeks.
NEW! Birthday Book Club - Wed, Dec 11
Please join us on Wed, Dec 11th for Birthday Book Club. If your student has a birthday in December, November, October, September or August, please join us in the Addison Library between 1:15 and 1:45.
During monthly Birthday Book Club (BBC) celebrations, birthday students select a new book or an old favorite that has already been purchased by the library. This book is then dedicated to the student using a specially designed Birthday Book Club book plate and spine. Students check out their birthday book and return it to the library when they are finished reading it so it can be enjoyed by others for years to come. Every child is welcome to participate during his or her birthday month (or any month following). Parents are welcome to come with their children to help them select their book. Please check the Addison website for the dates of all BBC events (http://www.addison.pausd.org/about/calendar).
We look forward to seeing you and your children on Wednesday!

NEW! Are You Applying to Private School for 2020-21?
If you are applying to a private school for the 2020-21 school year, be sure to submit your request for records to Nancy in the office by December 13. Raveena does not automatically request school records as it does for recommendations.

Did you know that while doing your holiday shopping on Amazon, you can help support Addison by simply going to AmazonSmile instead? It's the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service. The only difference is that every time you make a purchase, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible purchases to Addison’s PTA. Happy Shopping!
NEW! Books Inc Night - Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who made it out for Addison’s shopping night at Books Inc this week to help raise money for our school. A very special thanks to Purvi Kapadia and Jazmin LaBlanc for coordinating the event, welcoming everyone with treats and helping students find books for their classrooms from the Teacher Wishlists.
NEW! Thank You Addison Community!
The 3rd Grade students and teachers would like to thank the Addison community for the generous donations of new and gently used costumes during Halloween. The 3rd Grade Team was able to send 160 costumes to Florence Joyner Elementary School in Watts, California. Many students from kindergarten to the fifth grade level got to pick out costumes, dress up, and enjoy the Halloween festivities. A special thanks to the 3rd grade students for collecting and sorting the costumes!
