Air Quality Control

Addison Elementary

Dear Addison Families,

Due to heavy smoke from the wildfires in the North Bay counties causing unhealthy air quality throughout the Bay Area, including here in Palo Alto, we have been advised by our district office to cancel outdoor activities and field trips for the remainder of the week. This means that all outdoor activities need to be removed or moved indoors. This includes recess, lunch recess, physical education classes, athletic practices, and after school outdoor events and activities. Schools have also been asked to provide extra indoor locations for lunch time, to allow students to remain inside.

The wellness and safety of our students is of the utmost priority to us and we want to make sure that students, especially students with health conditions, are indoors and not exposed to the smoke unnecessarily.

We are also recommending that students do not walk or ride their bike to school this week, to avoid prolonged exposure outside. Since it is a spare the air day, please try to coordinate carpooling. Student's with inhalers should keep them on hand at all times.  Also, since parking is difficult at Addison, I'd like to remind families that our MP Room is open at 7:40am for breakfast so please attempt to drop off your children early to school.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you,

Amanda Boyce

Principal
