Dear Addison Families,
I wanted to update you on a couple things before our long weekend. (As a reminder, schools are closed on Monday, Jan. 21, in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday).
One of the required drills public schools perform each year is a "Lockdown Drill" (previously known as "Code Red"). The Lockdown Drill allows students and staff to practice procedures in the case of an unwanted visitor on campus. This past Wednesday, the PAPD trained staff in preparation for our drill on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 12:35pm. Before the drill, students are told that there may be an occasion where we have an unwanted person or animal on campus and our responsibility is to keep kids safe if that should occur. Our teachers have always been extremely sensitive when having these discussions with students in preparation for the drill.
During the Lockdown Drill, I will make an announcement to "Lockdown" and teachers will find a safe way to hide their students and barricade their classroom doors. The PAPD and District Personnel will be on campus to check our security measures. The drill lasts approximately 20 minutes so students will not be able to be checked out between 12:35-1pm on Jan. 23. If you have any further questions regarding the drill or how the teachers plan to discuss it with the students, feel free to contact me or your child's teacher.
Also, I assessed the field with the City of PA Community Service Manager today and we will re-open part of the field next week. I anticipate opening the remainder of the field after next week.
Thank you and have a wonderful three-day weekend!
