Principal's Update- May 20, 2021

Dear Addison Families,

Excitement is in the air as we are planning for the end of the year!  Many people have asked me how I'm feeling as we close out a very unique school year and my response is always the same; relief and a tremendous amount of pride.  I think most Educators would agree that this year has been the hardest we have ever worked but we feel very accomplished in everything we have been able to learn and overcome.  As we look ahead to the last couple weeks of school, our perseverance and planning continue to ensure a successful and enjoyable end of the year experience for all!

I am busily planning Promotion with our 5th grade teachers.  5th grade parents will be receiving their assigned section/row/seat numbers as we are making plans that adhere to CDC guidelines including a pre-determined seating chart.  All Addison classrooms will watch the event via Zoom livestream and the Zoom information will only be shared with 5th grade families as we have a limited number of licenses for viewing.  More information will be sent to 5th grade families next week.

We have also planned a variety of Field Day activities for our in-person and remote learners.  Unfortunately, we cannot open our campus to the number of parent volunteers that we typically had in the past in order to adhere to CDC guidelines but I'm grateful to our Field Day Committee for exploring a way that we can still host this fun event.  On the student's designated day (June 1st for 4th and 5th and June 2nd for K-3rd), students will rotate through activity zones so that we can remain in stable cohorts.  We are bringing back some familiar favorites and adding some new activities!

Additionally, I have been spending many hours interviewing Teachers for our three open positions in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 4th grade next year.  I am happy to share that Annie Harrier has been hired in the 1st grade opening.  She comes from a family of Teachers as her mom is currently teaching Kindergarten at Nixon and her sister is a 1st grade Teacher at Barron Park.  Annie graduated from the Stanford Teacher Education Program in June 2020 and has been teaching in San Jose this past year.  Annie visited Addison yesterday and met with our 1st grade team.  Everyone is feeling very excited about her placement!

We have two new School Site Council parent representatives identified for next year.  Thank you to Christine Boehm and Jacob Kivett for filling these positions.  Our final Site Council meeting for the year will take place in person on Wednesday, June 2nd, from 3-5pm in the Library if anyone would like to join.

If your child is continuing in PAUSD, the Annual Data Update is due tomorrow!  An email was sent from the PAUSD District Office yesterday with directions for completion.  It's very important to meet this deadline in order for your child to remain enrolled for the 2021-22 school year.

Finally, as the year comes to an end, I'd really appreciate your feedback and input as we reflect on the past and look ahead to the future.  The most important commitment we have as Addison Staff members is to ensure that every child feel like a valued member of our school community and have equitable learning opportunities.  If you could take a few minutes to fill out the ANONYMOUS  Addison Parent Survey 2020-21 (English and Spanish) by Friday, May 28th, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Fondly,

Amanda Boyce
