Dear Addison Families,
It's Staff Appreciation Week and I could not be more grateful for the hard working, creative, talented and flexible staff than I am this year. I've seen cards, cookies, flowers, and small tokens of appreciation floating through the office so thank you for reaching out to the special individuals on this campus who have made a difference in your child's life.
There was another important announcement this week: Katie Bramlett, 4th grade teacher, will be retiring at the end of the 2020-21 school year. She has shared this possibility with me for many months as she and her husband were exploring new property and recently purchased a farm in Cool, CA. As you may know, Ms. Bramlett is a nature lover so this is bittersweet news as we’re thrilled for Ms. Bramlett to spend more time in a place she loves but she will be missed at Addison! Our staff will be doing an internal celebration to honor the amazing careers of Mrs. Miller, Ms. Bramlett, and Karen and a separate message will be going out tomorrow regarding how you can acknowledge their contributions to our community.
We are busily planning for next year and I need your support! It's time to fill our parent positions for the 2021-22 School Site Council (SSC). SSC is a parent leadership group that meets monthly to discuss facilities, the social/ emotional climate on campus and instructional goals. The Addison SSC is includes the principal, three other staff members, and four parents. Members serve for two years. Members are asked to attend monthly SSC meetings; time and dates to be determined by the SSC. The School Site Council has a great opportunity to allot state funding to programs, initiatives, and resources that support the whole child.
Next year, we have two returning parent members and two open positions (and we'd like to have some alternate parents as well). If you are interested in one of the open SSC positions or serving as an alternate, please email a letter of interest to me with the following information: name, grade levels of your children, and a brief statement explaining why you want to be a member of the School Site Council. The deadline for SSC letters of interest is Friday, May 14. Also, if you have any further questions about SSC, please don’t hesitate to contact me or our current SSC Parent Chair, John Bressler (firstname.lastname@example.org). I hope you'll consider this important parent leadership role and THANK YOU to John Bressler and Sanjiv Wadhwani for serving these past couple years.
Families who plan to continue at Addison will need to complete the Annual Data Update. A message was sent to all current parents on Monday morning with instructions. If you encounter any errors, please complete a Let’s Talk question using the button “Annual Data Update Assistance”. A link will also be included to make an appointment at the district office (Carmen Robles, Jaime Anderson) for any parent that needs access to a computer or needs personal assistance completing the process.
So as I look ahead to the next couple weeks, I'll be busily interviewing for our three open teaching positions and sorting out the details for Field Day and our 5th Grade Promotion (information about these events will be sent out soon). It's hard to believe that we are coming close to the end of this extraordinary year!
