Dear Addison Families,
This past Monday, our 4th and 5th grade families were notified regarding their teacher and cohort (if returning to campus). We are busily preparing our campus this week for the last wave of students to return next week. Once our 4th and 5th graders return, we will have 240 students coming to Addison each week and 100 students continuing to learn remotely. This transition has required an extraordinary amount of collaboration, flexibility, innovation, and patience on behalf of our entire school and district community. I say this often but this experience has truly made me grateful and proud to work in PAUSD and at Addison.
Now that the campus and schedules have been set, there is still important work ahead. I have recently reviewed two Santa Clara County Public Health Documents, "Programs Serving Children or Youth" (Oct. 29, 2020) and "A Parent's Guide to the Reopening of Santa Clara County K-12 Schools" (September 21, 2020). The documents outline requirements to reduce the risk of transmission:
- for children/youth receiving in person instruction in a K-12 school, they can attend school and ONE additional child/youth activity (such as a before or after school program activity)
- Students should not move from one program to another more than once every (3) weeks
Additionally, the documents recommends minimizing the number of people who come in to contact with each other (i.e. playdates, etc.). I am asking for your support as we all need to do our part to follow the guidelines in order to keep our community healthy and safe.
Along with this final transition next week, we have decided as a staff to take a break from our school-wide Monday assemblies. Our hybrid teachers are adjusting to a new schedule and routines and while we considered moving the assemblies to Wednesdays, we realized there may be confusion with all the upcoming holidays. We will re-visit our school wide Zoom gatherings in January 2021.
I wanted to share the wonderful news that our new playground and basketball courts are anticipated to be completed this Saturday, Nov. 7th! This was the last phase of our 2.5 year construction project which resulted in a beautiful, spacious, 21st century facility/campus that serves our students and community well. We will be opening the new playground to scheduled cohorts next week. There are a few last items to complete on the blacktop including two wall ball courts but it is extremely gratifying and exciting to come to the end of this construction journey.
Additionally, tomorrow marks the end of our first trimester. Progress reports will be available on November 20 and I will send directions to families regarding how to access the reports. Finally, next week we have the Veteran's Day holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 11. There will be NO SCHOOL for either hybrid or full distance learners.
