Dear Addison Families,
After weeks of surveys, scheduling and planning campus logistics, we welcomed 61 Kindergarten and 1st grade families to Addison this week! Staff, students, and parents shared how happy they are to be back at school and are adjusting to all the new routines very well. Students have been very cooperative with wearing masks (even when playing at recess and lunch) and washing or sanitizing hands. We are working on social distancing as our younger students love to interact but we are teaching “airplane arms” and other strategies to remember spacing. See photos below of students entering their classroom gates and Kindergarteners at PE class with Coach Kessler!
Our K/1 full distance learning classes have also made a smooth transition. Both grade levels have adjusted to a new schedule and for some of the students, a new teacher. I am so grateful to work in a District where families are presented with options regarding whether in-person or online instruction works best for their particular situation. No matter which selection a family chooses, we will still stay united as an Addison community.
Yesterday, Principals across PAUSD came together again in the Addison MP Room to assess the 2nd and 3rd grade parent survey results. Once again, our Addison teachers demonstrated flexibility and the utmost professionalism when determining teaching and student assignments. Overall, we saw fewer families select full distance learning from our K/1 families. In 2nd grade, 19% of our families selected full distance learning and 81% selected hybrid. In 3rd grade, 27% selected full distance learning and 73% selected hybrid. Our 2nd and 3rd grade families will be informed about their teacher/class assignment on Monday, Oct. 19 by 5pm.
If your family is planning to send your child back in the hybrid model, please remember to complete the online health screener every day. A short video tutorial can be found here to show parents how to complete the screener. Thank you for your support in adjusting to our new routines and procedures!
