Good Evening Aiken Families,
Its starting to feel fall..ish! Anyone else loving this cooler weather?!?
It sounds like the fist week back was a huge success. MANY thanks to our incredible Aiken teachers and staff.
All the children have been enjoying the recess bags donated and put together from the PTO. Each class has their own bag with a variety of fun outdoor toys, balls, chalk, freebies and other fun items.
Make sure to go into your powerschool account and update ALL information. IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR INFORMATION PRINTED IN THE DIRECTORY YOU MUST CHECK THE BOX.
We will be pulling all the information for the directory from powershool. We would love to get this done soon, and have the directories out.
ROOM PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to be a room parent! We are still trying to fill a few spots, so if you are interested in helping our wonderful teachers please fill out the attached form and email it back to email@example.com by the end of this week. If there are more than two parents who volunteer we will randomly choose just two.
Also, if you do not want to be a room parent but wish to volunteer with the PTO in other ways, please email us using the email address above. Thanks!
Simple Actions Can Make a Difference
Community of Concern, the joint Aiken/Hall/Conard/Sedgwick PTO committees, would like to echo the West Hartford Public Schools’ commitment:
“We will be actively antiracist in our thoughts, our actions...” and the powerful voices of our students in the Black Live Matter Rallies.
We believe working to create a more equitable and just society can start by taking simple action steps that involve listening, learning, talking to one another, and not staying silent. Each week we will continue to suggest a simple action you can take.
Antiracist Action #5:
Watch a video “Native Voice” on PBS. Joy Harjo, the nation's first Native American Poet Laureate, about “opening doorway of hope for Indigenous artists”

Enjoy a poem “Remember”

“History is people. History is stories. It's poetry. And that's what I love about poetry, and that's how poetry teaches me. Poetry has taught me that you can time-travel in a poem. You can get to know people in a poem.” - Joy Harjo
If you have an idea of simple action to take, please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
A Few Reminders
* Students will be entering and exiting the building from their exterior classroom doors
*To enter the drop off lane please turn onto Peyote Rd. off of Hilldale. Follow the line of cars and students will exit from the passenger side.
Parents please remain in your car and encourage students to open and close their doors.
Have a fantastic week,
Amy and Sabrina
