Aiken Elementary

Dear Aiken Families,

We hope you are getting accustomed to Konstella, the new eblast platform.  Please let us know if you have any questions.   If you haven't already registered you can do so and add your child(ren) to their classroom.  This will help teachers and room parents send messages to your class through Konstella as well.

International Night - Monday, February 25th 6:00-8:00

Join us as we celebrate many of the cultures in our Aiken community.  This fantastic event should not be missed!  There will be a parade of nations starring Aiken students, food samplings from our international potluck in the cafeteria, entertainment in the auditorium, and booths set up by Aiken families showcasing their countries in the gymnasium.  This is truly a special night where you can experience the diversity of Aiken with your children.

Snuggle up and Read Night- Thursday, February 28th, 6:30-7:30

Help Aiken kick off Read Across America Day with a family reading night!  Wear your pjs and bring your favorite book to read.  If you would like to get cozy, bring a stuffed animal, sleeping bag, or pillow.  Don’t have a library card yet?  Sign up for a library card with your local library!  Book Swap Table:  leave a book at the table, take a new book to read and enjoy!  Have some books at home you would like to donate?…feel free to leave them on the table.   Please make sure books are in good condition.

 New After School Activity Choices

Spring is coming and with it comes new choices for the after school program.  Magic will continue to be offered on Wednesdays for grades K-5, but photography will not return until the Fall.  Please read the descriptions below and take the one question survey to vote for which your child would prefer.  The new class would meet on Mondays.

Airplane Builders (Mondays, K-5)
Wannabe pilots, you are cleared for take-off! We’ll make the physics of flying simple and fun; you’ll learn how to build all new model helicopters, gliders and even motorized planes! You’ll even go outside to fly your hand-crafted machines and take them home to fly some more. This class is aerodynamically designed to teach STEM concepts through hands-on learning and flying fun. You build it. You fly it. You keep it. Control tower over and out.

Fashion Trends (Mondays , 1-5)
Have an eye for fashion? This spring, stay on-trend with chic pieces designed and created by you! No sewing experience is necessary. We’ll teach you the skills you need—including hand-sewing and decorating—to take your idea from inspiration to sketch to seeing your vision come to life. To top it off, you’ll model your unique designs in a fashion show for friends and family! Design it. Make it. Wear it. Because life is too short to wear boring clothes.

Please vote on which ONE program you would like to see at Aiken in the Spring!

Save The Date - PTO Meeting and Mindfulness Presentation: March 26 - 6:00-7:30

Join us on March 26th for a short PTO meeting followed by a presentation on mindfulness and how you can implement mindfulness techniques in your home. See attached flyer for more information.

Box Tops

The Box Top Challenge is in full effect.  Whichever class hands in the most box tops will win a prize at the end of the year.  Please check your box tops and hand them in before they expire.  This is a super easy way to make money for Aiken School!

TRex Plastic Recycling

Don't forget to send in your clean plastic to be recycled.  Acceptable plastics are grocery bags, bread bags, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, ziploc baggies, produce bags, plastic wrap and bubble wrap.  There are bins located outside of the office to put them in.  This is a great way to help teach our children how to be environmentally responsible.

Crayola Color Cycle

Don't Forget - Our school is participating the Crayola color cycle, a program which recycles used markers to turn them into energy.  If you have any used markers please send them into the school with your child and they can be deposited in the marker bin located outside the office.  Please see the attached letter for more details.

If you have any questions about the above topics, Konstella, or any PTO event or issue, please feel free to contact us.

Best wishes,

Abiah & Tina
