Hi Aiken Families,

The 2019-2020 school is officially off and running. I hope everyone is adjusting well to their new classrooms, routines and enjoying the last unofficial weekend of summer.

Wednesday September 4th is our PTO kickoff night. Come and see what Aikens PTO is all about. Or just come for some snacks and to escape bed time!! Either way we cant wait to see you there.

7 to 8pm in the school cafeteria.

*please note time change from last eblast*

Thursday September 12th Curriculum night. Book those sitters now!

Please make sure your child returns their summer reading log to their new teacher...even if only one book was read! No worries if your summer reading log was misplaced or you are new to Aiken...writing your books down on a piece of paper (include your name and grade) works too! If you used the READsquared app, please make sure to print your reading log and send it in. I can’t wait to see all the books that were read this summer!

Save the date for Aiken's very popular, family-friendly, event Swoop Scoops! You can feast on the generously donated ice cream of Abby Dabby, as well as Iron & Grain Food Truck and East Coast Pizza Truck. There will be bounce houses as well as live music from the band Reign, comprised of West Hartford high school students. More information to follow!

There are now two easy ways to earn money for Aiken School though Box Tops for Education. You can download the app and scan your receipt, or you can continue to send in the box tops in plastic bags (grouped by 25). Of course, if you already taped them on a piece of paper we'll accept that as well. Please see the attached flyer for all the details.

You can also earn money for Aiken School every time you shop on Amazon by simply going to and selecting Aiken School PTO as the charity you want to support. You will find the exact same items and discounts as you would see on, but by going through you have the added bonus of donating money to Aiken every time you shop! Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Help Needed

As you may have heard, there was a fire early last Tuesday morning in the Kane Street Apartment complex. 11 Smith STEM students were directly impacted by the fire. 2 of the families will need to be relocated.

At this point they have no idea where that will be or for how long. The school has been in touch with the families that were displaced and have created a list of their immediate needs.

Smith school will be taking up a collection to purchase gift cards to local retailers like Walmart, Aldi, Price Rite, and Shop Rite, as well as some necessities.

Aiken PTO has pledged a donation, but these families need more help. Is you wish to donate Please have your donation into school by the end of the week. Send all donations in an envelope marked Smith school donation.

please make correction of these dates on your PTO calendar

Conference week and Scholastic book fair is November 19th

Have a great week!
