Aiken Chess Program returns to in person activities including the tournament competition team!
Award winning allClubs Chess instructor and coach, Alexander Lumelsky, presents his
instruction-based chess program for students grades K through 5, beginners welcome. The
program offers class instruction on chess play and strategy and is intended for players of all and
no prior skill or experience. The program also features supervised practice play, over-the-board
instruction, possible in-club competition play, and opportunity for play in off-campus
Mr. Lumelsky has ten years of chess teaching and coaching experience, including at least six
years at Aiken. His teams and players, including those from Aiken, earned several hundred titles,
multiple State Championships and national placements. Currently, he is President of the
Connecticut State Chess Association, Vice President of the New England Chess Association, a
Connecticut Delegate and Scholastic Coordinator to the U.S. Chess Federation, and the co-
Founder of the Connecticut Chess Organization, a non-profit project for the benefit of children’s
Club meetings for the fall will be from 3:20 to 4:20 PM on Thursdays: September 30, October 7,
14, 21, 28, and November 4. The program is for students grades K through 5, no prior
experience necessary. School COVID rules will be observed, including, weather permitting, the
use of outdoor space and wearing masks when inside.
