2020 CENSUS

Did you know the 2020 Census count impacts federal funding that communities receive each year for programs and services that are critical for schools, students, and younger children? When it comes to schools, the 2020 Census will determine funding for special education, teacher training, technology, school lunch assistance, Head Start and after-school programs.

How can you help? Be part of the solution, be counted because your family matters!

In mid-March, homes across the country will begin receiving invitations to complete the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you can respond in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail.

For more information, visit https://2020census.gov/en.html

Want to earn extra money while helping your community?  Become a part-time Census Taker. For more information, visit https://2020census.gov/en/jobs/job-details/job-descriptions.html

CHANGES ARE COMING TO OUR CAFETERIA

Did you know that a typical elementary school in West Hartford throws out as many as 30,000 Styrofoam plates or bowls in just one year.  This is a shocking number and your PTO is happy to let you know we are working to change this!  We are one of 4 West Hartford elementary schools teaming up with Sustainable CT, Growing Great Schools, and the WHPS Nutrition Services to buy reusable slotted trays that will be used instead of Styrofoam!  Please see the attached flyer for more information, as well as the attached picture which shows what the new trays will look like.  These should arrive at Aiken in April!!  Our next mission will be to get rid of the single-use flatware and make the switch to reusable.  Please email abiahruel@gmail.com with questions or if you want to help continue the trend toward a greener Aiken School.

Have a great week!
