Read Across America Activities including Snuggle Up and Read Night
Mon, Feb 25 - Fri, Mar 1
Aiken Elementary

Read Across America is next week (2/25-3/1)!  Here are some of the exciting things we will be doing:

  • You’ve Been Booked- as a fun way to encourage reading through the week classrooms will get “booked”. Book bags will be circulating the school, when a classroom is “booked” the teacher will select a book from the bag to read aloud to their class.  They can then keep the book for their classroom library and “book” another classroom.  We’ve Been Booked signs will be placed on the classroom doors that have received the book bag.

  • School Wide DEAR day- we will have a school wide Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) day on Wednesday, February 27th. Students will be asked to carry books around with them all day in anticipation of the 15 minute DEAR never know when it will happen!  So be prepared to read!

  • Snuggle up and Read Night- help Aiken kick off Read Across America Day with a family reading night on Thursday, February 28th from 6:30-7:30! Wear your pjs and bring your favorite book to read.  If you would like to get cozy, bring a stuffed animal, sleeping bag, or pillow.  Don’t have a library card yet?  Sign up for a library card with your local library!  Book Swap Table:  leave a book at the table, take a new book to read and enjoy!  Have some books at home you would like to donate?…feel free to leave them on the table.   Please make sure books are in good condition.

  • Read Across America Day- Aiken will be celebrating Read Across America day on Friday, March 1st. Students are asked to dress as their favorite book character to honor Dr. Seuss’s birthday!
