Some Important Reminders
Sun, Oct 25 1:17pm

Hello Aiken Families,

We hope you are having a wonderful weekend!  We know this is a challenging time for all of us.  Remember you are not alone.  This quote seemed fitting for this week's Eblast, "If you feel like you're losing everything, remember that trees lose their leaves every year and still they stand tall and wait for better days to come".  Better days WILL come everyone!  Please enjoy this week's Eblast!

Meaningful Actions

Aiken PTO supports Community of Concern, the joint Hall/Conard/Sedgwick PTO committee, and the West Hartford Public Schools’ commitment to “be actively antiracist in our thoughts, our actions.” Echoing the powerful voices of our students at the Black Live Matter Rallies, we believe working to create a more equitable and just society starts by taking meaningful action steps to listen, learn, talk with one another, and not stay silent. Each week we post meaningful actions, and we welcome ideas at whcommunityofconcern@gmail.com.

Chess Club Update

The chess program is going to start on October 27th. The fee has been lowered and a financial assistance option is available. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Join the Award-winning Aiken Chess Club

Like athletics are exercise for the body, chess is exercise for the mind. Engaging in chess activity provides school students a substantial advantage in education; essentially development of the mind and patterns of thinking not otherwise offered or encountered. Luckily, it is also a fun and engaging game for kids!

Club meetings will be online via Zoom on:

Tuesdays 5-6 PM (October 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24, December 1, 8 and 15)

or

Wednesdays 6-7 PM (October 28, November 4, 11, 18, 25, December 2, 9 and 16)

or

Thursdays 5-6 PM (October 29, November 5, 12*, 19*, December 3, 10 and 17). * Nov 12 and 19 will be 90-minute classes, ending at 5:30 PM, due to Nov 26 holiday.

EDI

The Aiken Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Parent Committee sponsors the Aiken's EDI Speaker Series. These series will feature distinguished scholars, activists, and experts to speak on topics most concerning to the Aiken community. The goal is to inspire and ignite candid dialogues around diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism as well as to create a sense of community, engagement, and activism.

*Save The Date*- On November 18 The Aiken EDI will host our open PTO meeting.  More information to come!
