The Art of Stage Craft

Do you love theater but prefer to show your creativity behind

the scenes? Artists of all kinds are needed to help create the

magic that happens on stage. In this class we will work as a

team to develop the concepts, design and strategy for our

upcoming production of “Into the Woods, Jr”. Please note that

this is a separate, more in-depth class aside from the Drama

Club Crew which will begin meeting after February break.

Through hands-on (often messy) projects you will learn:

• Research, inspiration and organization to create

meaningful stage designs.

• How to analyze a script and come up with a simple yet

powerful image that supports the production.

• Faux finishing, drawing, painting and sculpture techniques

Set carpentry basics and proper use of tools

• Listening, responding and collaborating with peers

 Ready? Steady? GO! (Unscripted!)

Improv theater can offer children a world of benefits. Learning to “live in the moment,” these kids will be able to effectively listen, communicate, respond quickly, use their imagination and collaborate in a safe place of supportive people. All of these attributes will serve children well as they find themselves in new and changing situations throughout life! And we’ll be laughing together all the way!

The main focus of our class will be on the following:

  • Playing improvisational games
  • Learning to think on their feet
  • Learning to change and adapt in the moment, while staying “in character”
  • Listening, responding and collaborating with peers
  • Working with props and incorporating them into creative play
