Dear Argonne Families,
For the Spring semester we will have a FREE restructured After School collaboration between The Richmond Neighborhood Center sites: Alamo, Argonne, Frank McCoppin, Lafayette and George Peabody Elementary schools. All sites will unite to combine students by grade level groups. We will have a K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th grade group (3 groups in total) and we split into breakout rooms for smaller group settings.
From Monday through Thursday we will host enrichment classes from 3:00pm-4:00pm and host an OPTIONAL homework help / community time from 4:00pm-4:45pm
We have also partnered with EDMO, who will be providing enrichment classes and will be rotating through the groups. Below is a brief description of the possible classes that EDMO will facilitate…
- Biome Blitz - explore a wide variety of biomes on our beautiful planet Earth, as well as the many fascinating creatures that call these various biomes "home." Kids will create unique art and design projects to highlight the amazing adaptations and special survival instincts of animals and other living things from a specific biome from around the world!
- Ingenious Innovators - students will be introduced to some of the most famous inventors and inventions from the past and present. They will harness the power of the engineering design process to design and build prototypes using the same tools, skills, and thinking methods employed by famous innovators from around the world and a variety of cultures all while using common materials found around the house.
- Virtual Beats - Create your own music! Virtual Beats will guide kids through the foundations of creating their own original music using an online platform called Soundtrap. Over the course of the club, kids will learn about how to add tracks on Soundtrap, how to use "loops" to create songs, and how to add various instruments or record with the MIDI feature. They will also learn some elementary music theory like rhythm, melody, and harmony.
When students are not participating in a class with EDMO, they will be with our Assistant Program Managers and/or Coordinators engaging in fun activities!
Our optional homework help / community time will be from 4:00pm-4:45pm where we can help students with homework and/or have community building activities (if students do not need homework assistance).
For Fridays we will host our School Site Socials from 3:00pm - 3:45pm, where our Argonne students will be able to come together and participate in fun games together! This will be a great opportunity for all Argonne students to see one another, as during the week they will be with students from different school sites who are within their grade level.
Students who currently attend our after school program do not need to re-enroll for Spring semester. Program will resume on Tuesday, January 5th!
