Argonne Family Letter from the Principal, 1/29/21
Fri, Jan 29 6:14pm

Dear Argonne Families,

As we wrap up the first month of a new year, I’ve been reflecting a lot on recent events in our country and the vast differences in the historical moments at our Nation’s Capital. In listening to the inspirational words of Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, at the Inauguration, my hope for a more just and equitable future is deepened because I know our students are brave enough to make change.

Even though there is still much uncertainty, I am so optimistic when I listen to our students discuss what they want for each other and their school community- a place where everyone is included and a place where all students feel safe to be themselves. I look forward to hearing more from our students as our school community starts planning for the next school year.

Finally, it was so nice to see many of your faces (with masks, of course!) at our Distribution Days this month! I’d like to send a huge thank you to our teachers and staff who organized materials and coordinated the  distribution AND to our Argonne PTO for making special goodie bags for our students!

Have a wonderful weekend!

In Community,

Ms. Catingub

“When day comes, we step out of the shade of flame and unafraid.

The new dawn balloons as we free it.

For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it.

If only we’re brave enough to be it.” Amanda Gorman

Important Reminders:

  • Argonne's Monthly Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Focus: Each month we are focusing school-wide on a different theme aimed at supporting our students’ social and emotional growth. This month we have looked closely at how we can be Ready and Responsible. All students receive an in-class lesson with Ms. Wang as well as weekly posts on Wellness Wednesdays connected to the month’s theme. Please take some time to explore Ms. Wang’s January Ready and Responsible Bitmoji classroom

  • It’s School Planning Season! Over the next couple months, we will begin the school planning process for the 2021-2022 school year. Although there are still many unknowns with what school will look like next year, I will be engaging with community stakeholders to identify our school priorities. In this planning process we will send out a parent/guardian survey and hold two community meetings. Save the date for the first community meeting on February 9th

  • Principal Coffee Klatch: Please join me next Friday morning, February 5th from 9:00-10:00am for my virtual Principal Coffee Klatch chat. This month, we will focus on school planning and priorities as we think about next school year.

  • Incoming Kindergarten and 6th Grade Enrollment ApplicationsDue February 5th! If you need support with the applications, please make an appointment, or call 415-241-6085 to make an appointment with a counselor from the Educational Placement Center (EPC). This is for ALL 5th grade families but also families who have younger children entering kindergarten for the 2021-2022
