Argonne Family Letter from the Principal, 3/8/21
Mon, Mar 8 12:14pm

Dear Argonne Families,

This year we are enjoying Read Across America Day the entire month of March by encouraging students to continue to share their favorite books on this school-wide Student Book Recommendation Padlet. Directions for posting to the Padlet are available under Ms. Inna’s library link in each Google Classroom. It has been wonderful to see students eager to share and see so many excellent book recommendations in one place! Keep the book recommendations coming!

This week we celebrate National School Social Worker Appreciation Week to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school social workers. In SFUSD, “School Social Workers are Essential”. They seek to ensure equitable education opportunities for all students; ensure that students are safe, healthy and ready to learn; and promote respect and dignity for all students and families. Please share an appreciation for Argonne’s School Social Worker, Ms. Wang, by going to this Padlet. We are so grateful to have Ms. Wang support our students and community!

There is excitement in the air and a lot of planning and steps moving us forward to reopening! I am confident that just like before, the teachers, staff, and the entire community will do our best to transition into this next phase of the pandemic school year. I look forward to seeing everyone soon! As always, and possibly even more so now, I want to thank you for your support of our Argonne teachers and staff during this busy time and your patience as we prepare for reopening Argonne.

In Community,

Ms. Catingub

Important Reminders:

  • Return Safely Together Updates: Argonne is a Wave 3 school in Phase 2A of the reopening plan.

Here are a few updates of reopening specific to Argonne and current events related to the preparation process:

  • On Friday, March 5th, Superintendent Dr. Matthews shared that some schools in Phase 2A are on track to open April 12. Go here to read the communication. More information will be forthcoming to determine the timeline for Argonne’s reopening.

  • We had a Reopening Town Hall on March 3 and here are the slides from that meeting.

  • In order to prepare our classrooms, student schedules may be adjusted because teachers will be using their work day to prepare their classrooms. The days you can expect an adjusted schedule are: March 5, March 8 - March 11Teachers will communicate with you if there are any changes to the schedules. Please be on the lookout for any communication on this from your child’s teacher.

  • K-2nd Grade Survey: You have an opportunity to retake the survey that was sent out in December if you have changed your mind. The only way to do this is to email me directly.  Please do not ask your child’s teacher for it, or Ms. Roschelle. They do not have access to the surveys. Each family has their own unique link. In your email, please include in the subject line: “In person learning survey: (Your CHILD’s NAME)”  I don’t want to miss your email and this will help me filter better as well. Surveys need to be completed by Friday at 5:00pm (to be safe). Once you decide, you will not be able to make changes after March 12. Also, please note that I cannot clarify how you responded previously- it’s not a necessary step and will potentially delay your survey. You can just retake the survey and respond how you want to now. DUE Friday March 12, 5:00pm

  • 3rd-5th Grade Survey: The District will be sending out surveys via email to all 3rd-5th grade parents/caregivers to get a sense of how many students would return in person, if given the opportunity. You will still have the option to remain in distance learning too. The window for this survey will be March 9-16th. At this time, we don’t have any more information on details of a 3-5 return, but this survey will be crucial in our planning so please be sure to fill it out even if you decide you still want to continue with distance learning. 100% participation in this survey is the goal. DUE Friday March 16, 5:00pm

  • Educators are now eligible for the vaccine. Please be understanding if a schedule needs to be modified for a day so that teachers can prioritize getting an appointment. We appreciate your patience.

  • School Planning for Next Year: Saturday, March 6th, the School Site Council (SSC) met to engage deeper in the school planning process and begin reviewing our preliminary budget. Here are the slides from the SSC Summit Meeting. Our next School Planning Community Meeting will be this Tuesday, March 9th.

  • Argonne’s Summer Session: I know many of you are beginning to make plans for summer and have inquired about our Summer Session dates. The tentative dates for Argonne’s Summer Session are July 6 - July 30. At this time, we do not know if Summer Session will be in-person, hybrid, or virtual. Due to the impacts of our current circumstances, we are still awaiting clarity on what SFUSD summer programs will look like. It is likely the format will be a continuation of how we end the school year in June 2021. Once we have more information, I will communicate details about our Summer Session, as well as confirm the dates. Your patience an understanding is very much appreciated.

  • 5th Grade Book Club: 5th grade students are invited to join Ms. Parker for 5th Grade Book Club this Thursday, March 11 from 12:30 to 1:00pm https://sfusd.zoom.us/j/7882553802 Meeting ID: 788 255 3802. Students will be choosing a new book at this meeting. Questions?: Email Ms. Parker (parkerj@sfusd.edu)

  • Parent Teacher Conferences and Report Cards: This trimester conferences may be scheduled over a two week period: March 8-12 and March 15-19. Your child’s teacher will reach out to you to schedule a conference. Report cards will be shared at your child’s conference and available in ParentVUE the week of March 8th.

  • March Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Focus: This March we will be focused on Bullying Prevention. All students will receive an in-class lesson with Ms. Wang, our School Social Worker, as well as weekly posts on Wellness Wednesdays connected to the month’s theme. Stay tuned for more on this important topic!
