Argonne Family Letter from the Principal, 4/23/21
Fri, Apr 23 3:01pm

Dear Argonne Families,

It is with such pleasure that I write to you. This first week back has been filled with such joy and excitement! It has truly been so wonderful to have our classrooms filled with the buzz of students. Our teachers are working hard to build community and connection in two settings, and seeing both our distance learners and in person students engage through the wonders of technology has been so fun!

Thank you for all of your patience this week as we sorted out and handled new logistics. This week there has been some trial and error, figuring out procedures on the fly, and lots of flexible problem solving. I appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we work things out.

Overall, reopening has gone smoothly and I am most impressed at how responsible our students are with the new procedures! Please read through some reminders and tips below for making arrival and dismissal a smooth process for our whole community. Our systems are not perfect, but please know that the safety of your children is our top priority. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding of our procedures. Please see these slides for reference.

We are looking forward to welcoming back our 3rd-5th grade students next week! See you soon!

In Community,

Ms. Catingub

Important Reminders:

  • Arrival:

    • K-2 students will enter at the Cabrillo Street gate.

    • 3-5 students will enter on the 17th Avenue gate.

    • All students will be asked health screening questions. Help prepare your child by reviewing the questions ahead of time.

    • Students will go directly to their homebase spots marked on the yard. Students may not play on the play structure.

    • As part of our required safety protocols, if your child has any of the symptoms indicated at arrival or during the day, we will call home for your child to be picked up.

  • Dismissal:

    • Classes will use the same gates for dismissal as they enter for arrival.

    • We ask that parents/guardians line up at the cones labeled for your child’s teacher on the sidewalk. Please do not block or gather at the gate opening.

    • Our staff will be working together to call for students to be dismissed from their class spaces (homebases) on the yard.

  • Walk or Park Your Car:

    • One way to help our arrival and dismissal process is to walk and park. We highly encourage parents and guardians to walk to school OR park your car and walk to the arrival or dismissal gates.

    • Please do not double park or park in the white zone.

    • If you are driving for dismissal, please be prepared to circle the block if your child is not out of school yet. We cannot have cars backed up on 17th Ave or Cabrillo.

  • Siblings:

    • Siblings may enter the same gate as the youngest sibling for arrival.

    • We are also asking siblings to sit with the youngest sibling for dismissal. For example, if you have a 4th and 1st grader- your 4th grade child will need to walk to your 1st grader’s class and sit with their sibling and socially distanced from other students.

  • Covid-19 Mobile Testing Site for Students:

    • As part of our continued COVID-19 testing for students, SFUSD will offer COVID-19 testing at schools on a rotating schedule through the end of this school year.

    • Next Thursday, April 29 Color will be setting up a test site outside of Argonne from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm. Students have the option to be tested before school starts (starting at 7:30 am), during recess/lunch, or after school ends (until 3:30 pm).

    • Do I need to accompany my child to the testing site? Students over the age of 13 can register for themselves, and parents do not need to be present at the testing site. For students under 13, a parent or guardian must either accompany the student to the testing site or pre-register on behalf of the student prior to testing.

    • Is testing required for students at Argonne? While testing is not required to access in person learning, it is strongly encouraged. Testing is a very important part of keeping our schools safe.

    • What if that date doesn’t work for me/my student? Testing is still available to all students at 20 Cook Street, Mondays through Fridays (7:30 am - 3:30 pm) and Saturdays (8:30 am - 3:30 pm).

    • Questions? Please see our Student Testing FAQ and reach out to your school’s office for more information. For the latest information on testing schedules, please see Color’s website.

  • Summer Session Survey Coming Soon! Argonne’s Summer Session will occur between July 6 - July 30. SFUSD summer programs will continue to implement our Covid safety protocols and provide students with learning through the distance and in-person model. The format and structure of our Summer Session will be dependent on the interest of our families to continue with distance or in person learning. We will be sending out a survey to families very soon to ask for your preference. Stay tuned!
