Dear Argonne Families,

I want to start off by saying that the recent uptick in violence against Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in our country and in our very own city, has been a painful issue many of us are grappling with. As an Asian American woman, I am still trying to process these violent acts of racism. I think of my own family and our families at Argonne. I know that many of you are impacted by these events, and so I hope that our Argonne community offers our students and families a sense of love and support- not only during at this time, but all the time. We have and will continue to stand together in solidarity as a community to support and uplift each other.

Important Reminders:

  • Return Safely Together Updates: Here are a few updates of reopening specific to Argonne and current events related to the preparation process:

  • The week of April 19, 2021 we will welcome back our K-2 grade students in general education classes and students in the K-2 Special Day Classes. 

  • The week of April 26, 2021 we will welcome back our 3-5 grade students in general education classes and students in the 3-5 Special Day Class.

  • When we return from Spring Break on April 5th, teachers will have 4 full work days from April 5-8th. These work days will allow for teachers to begin prepping for the return to in person learning. On these work days, teachers will host a short synchronous check-in or class circle on Zoom in the morning, and then the rest of the day students will have asynchronous assignments. I appreciate your understanding as we give teachers the time they need to prepare for your child.  

  • All families are welcome to attend our Informational Town Hall on Wednesday, March 24 from 6:15-7:30pmChinese interpretation will be provided. Please submit questions ahead of time here. I will do my best to answer as many questions as I can.

  • Dress as Your Favorite Book Character! Argonne’s Student Council has planned a Spirit Day for this Friday, March 26- we are celebrating reading by dressing up as our favorite book characters! Can’t wait to see all the costumes at Clap In!

  • 5th Grade Book Club: The 5th Grade Book Club met last week and chose for their next book, the modern fantasy, The Golden Compass (Book 1) by award-winning children's author, Philip Pullman. Students will meet to discuss the book on Friday, April 16 from 12:15-1:00pm zoom link: https://sfusd.zoom.us/j/7882553802 Meeting ID: 788 255 3802). 5th grade students are welcome to join at any time.   • 2021-2022 Placements for New Kindergarten and 6th Grade Students: This week, March 22-26, first round placements for the 2021-2022 school year will go out to families.
