Family Letter from the Principal, 11/2/20
Mon, Nov 2 9:24am

Dear Argonne Families,

Happy November! It was so nice to see so many families on Friday for our Distribution Day! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween weekend! HUGE thank you to our teachers for all their hard work in ensuring our students got what they need for learning. I’d also like to thank our Art in Action volunteers, Sarah Fishman and Linda Chu, for coordinating art materials too!

As we kick off the start of a new month and a big Election Day week, I have several announcements and reminders for you:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences are around the corner! Due to the change in the instructional day during distance learning, this year our Parent Teacher Conference week will extend over a two week period rather than a one week period. Parent Teacher Conference may be held from November 16 - November 20 AND November 30 - December 4. Teachers will be reaching out to schedule your conference. If you would like language interpretation, please let your child’s teacher know.

  • Mid-Semester Family Wellness Check Ins: We will continue to conduct Family Wellness Checks as a way to follow up with our family needs during the impacts of COVID-19, Shelter in Place, and Distance Learning. Family Wellness Checks will occur during your Parent Teacher Conference.

  • ParentVue and Tech requests: If you need a new device, you must submit the device request form via your ParentVue account. Once your request is in the system, I will reach out to you to arrange a pick up. Please make sure you have ParentVue activated. Your child’s district assessments and their report cards will be made available through ParentVue only. Report cards should be loaded by Nov 16th- the first week of Parent Teacher Conferences

  • Media Release Form: Please complete the Media Release Form. To do this: Log into ParentVUE, click on forms, and check off the media release forms, as appropriate. By completing this form, your child is cleared to participate in school photos and videos that will be used on the school website and during the Virtual Enrollment Fair. It also allows our student teachers to video-tape their lessons for learning and development.

  • English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) Election: If you are a parent or guardian of an English Language Learner, please see this election form for electing our new members.

  • The Virtual Enrollment Fair will be November 6-13th. Please see this link for more information. This only applies to 5th grade families exploring middle schools and families that have an incoming kinder, but please feel free to share this information with families in the community that might be interested in enrolling in SFUSD.

  • Holiday Groceries from the Food Pantry: The Richmond Neighborhood Center (RNC) has partnered with the Food Pantry to offer Argonne families holiday groceries (stuffing, whole turkey or chicken, etc.). If you are interested, please contact me (catingubs@sfusd.edu), Raquel Lopez Monroy at the RNC (raquel@richmondsf.org), or Nancy Wang, our School Social Worker (wangn@sfusd.edu). Your child does not need to attend the RNC to participate.

  • SFUSD Cafeteria Redesign Project: The concept plan for the cafeteria graphics is complete and I’m excited to share it! Here is the Concept Plan. As a reminder, the Cafeteria Redesign Project is focused on new furniture, wall graphics, and cork board area for displaying student work. This project is separate and unrelated to the Argonne PTO Capital Improvement plans for the cafeteria.
