Welcome to a New School Year at Argonne!
Mon, Jul 6 7:49am

Dear Argonne Families,

Welcome to our new school year! I hope you had a restful and rejuvenating June. I’m so excited to welcome new families and see our students again!

Starting tomorrow, we will embark on a new journey of launching our new school year through Distance Learning. For the next four weeks 1st-5th grade (and two weeks for Kindergarten) students will engage through Google Classroom and other digital platforms as we start the school year with our Summer Session.

With the buzz and excitement of starting a new school year, I recognize that we are also beginning the year with unknown challenges ahead. At this time, SFUSD is working to determine what the fall will look like and I encourage you to attend the SFUSD-hosted town hall meetings this week. As we learn more information, I will work with our teachers, staff, and parent leadership groups to determine how district plans will affect our Argonne community.

This summer our teachers and staff are responding to the needs and circumstances of our families by focusing on community and relationship building and the social-emotional learning of our students. This summer we want to be intentional and thoughtful in our community circles, class discussion, and reflections with our students so that we may develop a strong foundation for the rest of the year. And as we launch the school year this summer and throughout the year, our staff will be working together to develop our skills and understanding in order to create an anti-bias and anti-racist community where every child can thrive.

It’s important for us to acknowledge that the fight against racial injustice and police brutality is happening in San Francisco, around the Country, and the World. I encourage our entire community to take some time to speak honestly about what is happening, especially with our children. SFUSD has created a page with Family Resources for Talking about Race & Social Justice in the U.S.. Whether we realize it or not, our children are always listening and watching. The more we talk to our children, the better we can help them understand what is happening and take away some of the confusion and fear they may be holding.

Our teachers and staff are looking forward to working together to build and deepen our relationships with your child. Please check out this video of staff introductions!

Session 1 Kindergarten Families: Please attend our Parent/Caregiver Welcome to Kindergarten Virtual Orientation tomorrow, July 6 from 10:00 - 11:00am

Finally, class placements were sent to families in the mail last week, and teachers have been reaching out to families and students to get everyone into their Google Classroom. If you did not receive a notice in the mail and have not been contacted by your child’s teacher, please email me directly.

As always, thank you for your dedication and love towards our Argonne community!

In Community,

Ms. Catingub
