Barron Park PTA response to COVID 19

To the Barron Park School Community, 

First of all, I sincerely hope this email finds every one of you and your families in good health.  

Most of you have already heard the news but for those of you who have not, Barron Park School, following the recommendations of PAUSD and Superintendent Austin, has canceled all large gatherings through the end of this school year.  Dr. Austin’s announcement can be found here, Principal Goddard’s email can be read here.

In coordination, the Barron Park PTA has decided to cancel the following events and activities:

  • General PTA Meeting, March 24
  • Book Faire, March 30-April 3
  • Family Literacy Night, April 1
  • PJ Movie Night, April 17
  • Cinco de Mayo Chili Cook-off, May 1
  • Family Literacy Night, May 12
  • Volunteer Appreciation Coffee, May 22

For the time being our monthly PTA meetings will be limited to members of the Executive Board only, however general members of the PTA may participate via Zoom conference with an invitation. Please email barronparkpta@gmail.com to request access.  We are investigating means for holding our final General PTA meeting scheduled for May 22nd either at an off-campus location or as a virtual meeting via Zoom or another similar system. Please stay tuned for more information.

We have also decided to transform the Superheroes Ball dinner & live auction event scheduled for next Saturday, March 21st into an all online fundraising event. This decision was not made lightly, and while we are disappointed not to be able to gather and celebrate with our Barron Park community this year we feel confident it is the right decision made out of concern for the health and safety of our parent community, staff and guests. Our superhero event chairs, Scott Anderson & Chris Parikh, and their team need a few more days to re-organize and prepare for an online event, but rest assured we will have more information for you soon. We expect to be able to open the online auction as early as Monday, March 16th and we know our super Barron Park community will be ready and able to save-the-day by bidding on a wide variety of camps, gift cards and special experiences. Dinner and auction ticket holders will receive a separate email very soon, we thank you for your support!

It goes without saying that these are highly unusual times. As parents, we must keep in mind that our responses to this situation will become the model for our children for how to respond to crisis. If we can consciously model calm, determination, and a collectivist spirit, we may be teaching our students the most important lesson they will ever receive.  

I am so grateful for your continued patience, support and generosity of spirit. I’ve never felt more fortunate to be part of the Barron Park School community. Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones, and to quote the Wiggles... wash your hands!
