Speak Up for Student Safety

Over the past year, our school community has been working with the City on street safety improvements across Bay Farm Island. We’re seeing real changes on the ground that will improve student safety, including efforts to slow traffic and make streets safer around our school.

As these changes move from plans to implementation, City staff are hearing concerns from some neighbors. To move this work forward and keep student safety at the center, it’s important that families who support these improvements make their voices heard. The City has pulled back planned intersection improvements at Aughinbaugh and Mecartney, an intersection families have raised safety concerns about.

We know the current lack of pavement markings is frustrating. Still, if we want the City to be able to make difficult choices that prioritize safety, it’s important for supportive voices to speak up. Please review and sign this short letter by Monday, Jan 5.

Do you have questions about the plans or how they support safety? Please reach out to Maria Piper, who has been the primary liaison with City staff.

Thank you for supporting safer streets for our kids and our community.
