Read-A-Thon FAQs 📚

We’ve gotten a few great questions about Read-A-Thon — here are some quick answers to help everyone log reading and donations with confidence!

What counts as reading?

Anything involving words and stories counts! 📖✨ This includes:

  • Books, magazines, graphic novels, or newspapers
  • Listening to an adult read aloud or audiobooks
  • Reading at school or for homework (independent reading, reading buddies)

Ultimately, parents decide what counts for their reader. (ex. do you want to encourage late-night reading marathons? It's up to you!) We provided teachers with in-class reading logs, which should come home next Friday so minutes can be added in PledgeStar.

How do matching donations work if they take time to process?

If you receive confirmation from your employer that a matching donation will be made, please email that confirmation to  read-a-thon@bayfarmptsa.org. We’ll count it on the backend so your student gets credit right away.

What about cash or checks that don't go through PledgeStar?

Please send cash or checks in an envelope labeled with your student’s name and classroom and drop it off at the school office. Ms. Nancy or Ms. Mimi will pass it along to us, and we’ll make sure it’s recorded.

How do I track my child’s reading time?

There’s a reading log on the back of the Read-A-Thon registration printout that went home with students. If that page has gone missing (it happens!), you’ll find a printable reading log attached to this message that you can use instead.
