The Programs Committee supports student enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom, from clubs and hands-on learning experiences to cultural and environmental programs.
Our goal is to make it easy (and fun!) for families to get involved while keeping things organized and manageable for our volunteers.
How Programs Work at Bay Farm

We’d love to hear it! New ideas are reviewed based on student interest, volunteer support, and available space to ensure we can set each program up for success.
Program & Club Leads
Each program is led by a parent volunteer who brings it to life with support from the Programs Committee for planning, communication, and coordination.
Communication & Sign-Ups
Programs collaborates with the Communications Committee and may use different tools depending on their needs (such as Konstella, Zeffy, FutureFund), but all opportunities will be shared with families so you know what’s available and how to join.
Ongoing Support
The Programs Committee helps connect volunteers, streamline communication, and keep things running smoothly so programs can grow and thrive year after year.

Programs Committee Chair Signed Up: 1 / 1The Programs Committee Chair supports and coordinates student enrichment programs at Bay Farm, helping bring clubs, activities, and hands-on learning opportunities to life beyond the classroom. This role partners with program and club leads to provide guidance, streamline communication, and ensure each program has what it needs to run smoothly. The Programs Chair also helps review new ideas and collaborates with the PTSA Executive Board to support thoughtful, sustainable growth. At its core, this role exists to make it easier for volunteers to get involved and create meaningful experiences for students.

The DEI Lead builds a school community where every student and family feels a sense of belonging, partnering with the PTSA board to weave inclusivity into school life. This role leads the DEI Committee's activities and conversations throughout the year and, in collaboration with the Events Committee, organizes Heritage Night: Passport Around the World, a community celebration of the cultures that make up Bay Farm.

The Go Green Lead champions sustainability at Bay Farm, inspiring students and families to make eco-friendly choices through hands-on initiatives throughout the year. This role recruits and supports Go Green Initiative Leads, each of whom takes ownership of a specific program, and hosts the Go Green table at the Back to School Expo, Bay Farm's biggest sustainability recruitment moment. The Go Green Lead also brings ideas to the Programs Committee to keep sustainability an active part of school life year over year.

Go Green Initiative Leads take ownership of a specific sustainability program under the guidance of the Go Green Lead. This is a great way for a parent (or a parent-student duo!) to make a focused, manageable impact without needing to run the whole committee.

The Reflections Coordinator Lead brings the National PTA's Reflections Arts Program to Bay Farm, inviting students to create original artwork inspired by this year's theme, "What My Culture Means to Me!" This role oversees the program in partnership with the Programs Committee and DEI, recruiting Initiative Leads to help manage entries, judging, and promotion so the work doesn't fall on one person. Bay Farm is currently the only school in Alameda participating in Reflections, and this year's goal is to grow involvement and see a Bay Farm student recognized beyond the school level.

The Safety Patrol Lead brings Bay Farm's Student Safety Patrol to life, partnering with Mr. Slez to support 4th grade student leaders as they take on age-appropriate roles around drop-off and the school's 4 B's (Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be an Ally). This role helps coordinate a fun, visible presence at drop-off during the first couple weeks of school and periodically throughout the year, including appearances by Squirt the Dolphin!, with support from other PTSA volunteers so it's never on one person alone.

The Volunteer Coordinator Lead helps Bay Farm families get cleared and connected to volunteer at school, coordinating on-campus LiveScan events each fall and spring and guiding new volunteers through the district's requirements, paperwork, and next steps. This role is a first point of contact for parents who want to get involved and aren't sure where to start.
