Bay Farm School

Dear Bay Farm Families,

As a famous bard once said, “parting is such sweet sorrow.” He was right.

Garner Takahashi-Morris, our Bay Farm Garden teacher for the past four-and-a-half years, is leaving to pursue new and exciting opportunities. Garner has been an inspirational garden instructor; sharing her love for plants, animals, and environmental stewardship with students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Her leadership and many contributions to Bay Farm will be missed. We will say “goodbye and good-luck” during the Monday, January 28th, morning ceremony. Garner’s last day of teaching will be Thursday, January 30th. I will be reaching out through the room parents to coordinate a “goodbye” gift for Garner, so please look out for something in coming home with your student this week.

While we hope to minimize impacts on the garden schedule, Garner’s departure will cause some changes to our current garden program. Starting February 1st, Jim Cartan (currently the K-2 garden teacher) will take over as the lead garden teacher and teach the 3rd - 5th grade garden classes as well as become the sponsor for the Middle School Garden and Cooking Club. We have already begun recruiting for a new K-2 garden teacher and, ideally, will have someone hired by February 1st. If you know of anyone interested in this position, please have them contact Jim or me.

Both Garner and Jim will be telling their classes about these changes during this week’s garden class.

Have a lovely evening,
