We would like to give a shout-out to the Bayside community members who’ve been working to beautify Bayside campus and to share some exciting news: the City of San Mateo has selected Bayside Academy as its official Arbor Day School for 2020!
What does this mean? It means the following:
- The City will contribute a total of fifteen trees to Bayside. Ten of those trees will be planted by the City sometime in January or February 2020. All costs associated with the planting of the trees (trees and labor = ~$600/tree) will be graciously paid for by the City.
- The City is hoping the remaining five trees will be planted by Bayside students during California's Arbor Day on March 7th, 2020.
Special thanks to the leadership and enthusiasm of Bayside Custodian Mr. Taylor and parent Sabrina Ocampo for kick-starting all of these efforts! We’d also like to thank City Arborist Matthew Fried.
A very big THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers who helped during Bayside's Clean-Up & Prep Day on October 27th! Volunteers cleaned and laid new compost donated by Recology to get our project areas ready. The team constructed a small wood border around the barren patch located at the back of Bayside, and also put in the plants we had available. Efforts continued throughout the week as volunteers added plants to beds throughout campus, including the planter boxes in front of the school. Be sure to check it out... a little teamwork goes a long way!
We would like to thank the following volunteers who lent a helping hand:
Sandy Yu, Chloe Lok, Maggie Yeh Chen, Victoria Chen, Cormac Kissane, Ailish & Noah Kissane, Cari Pang Chen, Kiana Chen, Joe & Jodee Spina, Ayako & Glenn Fukudome, Justin Fukudome, Joanna Adamkewicz, Sonya Chan, Derek Chan-Wittry, Thao Le, Lev & Ada Peretz, and M. Zelle.
Also, we are very grateful for the generous plant donations from Cari Chen, Lena Yin, Bayside neighbor Michele Humeston, CalWater and Hassett Ace Hardware!
The team is eager to continue beautification efforts. If you have any leads on school murals, please contact Mr. Taylor at email@example.com.
If you know of any potential plant or other gardening donations, please contact Thao Le at firstname.lastname@example.org.
