I’ve heard from a number of parents who are concerned now that mediation between the San Mateo-Foster City School District and the San Mateo Elementary Teachers’ Association has failed and teachers are talking about striking.
First, because the PTSA is an organization whose membership is made up of parents, teachers, students, school district employees, school board members, and community members, the PTSA must remain neutral in the dispute between the school district and teachers.
However, the PTSA can provide information so that you can learn as much as possible about this situation. Please visit the links below for more information:
San Mateo Elementary Teachers’ Association website: http://www.smeta.org/
San Mateo-Foster City School District School Board website: http://www.smfcsd.net/en/board-of-trustees/board-meeting-agendas-minutes-and-summaries.html
I also encourage you to visit the OpenGov platform to explore in-depth the financial data for our school district. The district’s financial position is one of the sticking points in the dispute between SMFCSD and SMETA. You can find the OpenGov platform here: https://smfcsdca.opengov.com/
The next School Board meeting will be on Thursday, November 16th at 7:00 pm at the SMFCSD offices at 1170 Chess Drive in Foster City. All School Board meetings for the 2017-2018 school year are listed on the School Board website link. I encourage you to attend a School Board meeting if you would like to make your voice on this issue heard.
You can also contact the School Board members to discuss this situation with them — they are your elected representatives, and it is your right to speak to them. You can find their contact information here: http://www.smfcsd.net/en/board-of-trustees/board-of-trustees-members.html
It is my hope that this contract dispute between SMFCSD and SMETA will be settled soon with terms that are acceptable to all parties. If you have any additional questions, please contact me at email@example.com.
Today is Election Day and there are three open seats on the SMFC School Board. If you haven't already, please make sure to vote.
Thank you for being an engaged member of our PTSA & community.
