SEEKING GARDEN CO-LEAD FALL 2025
The Booksin Garden Program is seeking a new Co-Chair for next school year! Current Co-Lead, Sarah Giacomotto, will be deeply missed at Booksin when her daughter leaves for middle school this fall. Our continuing Co-Lead, Rebecca Bitter, is looking for a partner to help maintain and grow Booksin's Garden program, which includes both hands-on gardening tasks, support for garden lessons, and coordination of volunteers. Responsibilities will be divided between Rebecca and the new co-chair with some tasks being held during school hours while others can be done on your own time. Interested parents can email Sarah and Rebecca at garden@mybesca.com to learn more about the role and whether it may be the right fit for you. Why volunteer now? Shadowing the role in winter/spring provides ample opportunities to observe and learn the ropes before stepping into the co-lead position.

Garden Lead Responsibilities:

• Maintain the garden, including repairing beds, irrigation systems, and other
  structures as needed.
• Prune trees and shrubs, plant seasonal crops, weed, and add nutrients to garden
  beds.
• Keep the garden shed organized and stocked with tools and supplies for garden
  lessons.
• Lead the weekly 4th-5th grade Garden Guardians program during lunch, fostering
engagement with students and communicating with parents as needed.
• Organize the annual Garden Earth Day Sale (April), including plant preparation,
  volunteer coordination, and event logistics.
• Coordinate the summer schedule and oversee volunteer participation (answering
  questions, providing orientation training etc.)
• The co-chair will also communicate/collaborate with BESCA, Ms. Tan, and other school admin throughout the year.
LET ME RUN ASSISTANT COACHES NEEDED

Let Me Run can't run without the help of more assistant coaches! Let Me Run is a nonprofit wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. Coaches follow a unique curriculum that uses the power of running to encourage boys to develop their emotional, social, and physical health. The program is for 4th & 5th grade boys and runs afterschool at Booksin on M/W/F from 2:15-3:30pm, from March 31st to May 7th. The program culminates in an end-of-season 5k race on May 10th. Annie Reynolds will be the head coach and needs the help of 1-3 assistant coaches or else the program can't run! If you can help with one, two, or all of the practices each week, please contact Annie at annie.rose.reynolds@gmail.com

BOOK EXCHANGE

Did your child get new books over the break and now have some old ones that are ready to pass on to someone else? Save them for the book exchange on Thursday, Jan 30! The annual Booksin Book Exchange is a wonderful opportunity to clear out gently used books and donate them to other children in our school community. During the exchange, every student will have the chance to pick out a free book to take home and enjoy! We’ll be collecting book donations starting next Tuesday, January 21 through Tuesday, January 28. Look for collection bins in front of the library and around the school. We welcome children's books for all grade levels but upper-grade & chapter books are especially in high demand. The more books you donate, the more choices our students will have - thank you for helping make this event a success!

YEARBOOK EARLY BIRD PRICING
Take advantage of our early bird pricing now through 1/31/25. $30 for soft covers and $50 for hardcovers. Prices go up on 2/1/25. Preorder your yearbook at  https://www.mybesca.com/yearbook

BOOKSIN BASH
Save the date for the Booksin Bash Friday evening March 28th tentatively from 6-11pm (exact time tbd). Join us for a cocktail/ mocktail party with a live auction, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing. The event will be held at the San Jose Women’s Club, a beautiful historic 1920’s Spanish Revival building in the heart of Downtown San Jose. If you like to dress for a theme, we encourage you to embrace the glam 1960’s “Palm Royale” aesthetic.

As a bonus, we have partnered with Warrior Code Taekwondo for the evening. They will be offering a kids babysitting event just for Booksin students from 5-9 for $50 a child, and will be giving a percentage of the earnings back to Booksin/ BESCA (like a Dining Night Out).

We hope you’ll join us for a night of fun!
