📣 ANNOUNCEMENTS


🔹ENRICHMENT PROGRAM VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS ARE OPEN!
Volunteer sign-ups for Art@BESCA, Garden, Library Helpers, Project Cornerstone, and Yearbook are now open to all parents/guardians through Konstella! 
A few helpful reminders: 

  • Please double-check that the date and time work with your schedule before signing up. 
  • If you’d like to be a Room Parent, please reach out to your teacher directly. Teacher approval is required for this role and approved names will be submitted to the VP of Volunteers for group access. 
  • If all your classroom’s Art or Garden volunteer spots are already filled, don’t worry! Send a message to BESCA's VP of Volunteers, Kayla Monk, for assistance.
  • Remember to volunteer on campus during school hours, you must be cleared by San José Unified School District annually. For more information, visit the "volunteer" section of BESCA's website. 
BESCA's Event planning committees are also looking for volunteers to help plan and execute upcoming events. Joining a committee is a great way to meet other families, share ideas, and help bring our school events to life. Sign up on Konstella under the committees tab. If you signed up earlier and your interest has changed, please remember to withdraw your name from the sign-up sheet so spots are open for others.

🔹BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Booksin's Teachers and Staff welcome caregivers to Booksin’s Back to School Night this Tuesday, August 19th. Back to school night is an opportunity to visit your child's classroom to meet the teacher, learn about the curriculum, and understand classroom expectations for the upcoming school year. Students do not attend. If you have specific questions about your child, you may contact your child’s teacher via email. Here is the schedule for the evening:
  • 3rd-5th Grades: 6:00pm-6:45pm
  • Principal’s Remarks (in the Spirit Court): 6:45pm-7:00pm
  • TK-2nd Grade: 7:00 pm-7:45 pm

🔹WALKATHON INFORMATIONAL MEETING
The 38th annual Booksin Walkathon (WAT) is on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Our WAT Leads, Erin Strong and Audrey Hall, are hosting a short and informative virtual kick-off meeting for all parents/caregivers on Thursday, August 21 at 7:30pm via Webex. Come hear about all the exciting things taking place at this year’s walkathon including open lead positions. Use this link to join the meeting! 

🔹WORK PARTY IN THE GARDEN
The Booksin Garden is a special place that is lovingly maintained by our parent volunteers. To get the garden ready for our upcoming lessons, we need lots of volunteer help this Saturday, August 23rd, from 9:00am-2:00pm.  Bring the whole family to the Booksin Garden to do so some weeding, trimming, organizing, etc. Snacks, drinks, and lunch will be provided! 


🔹ART VOLUNTEER ORIENTATIONS
If you are a new or returning art parent or are considering taking on this role, please attend ONE of the two orientations with our Art Leads, Kendra Penhallegon & Adelaide Ding. They will be going over the role of art docents in detail. Art lessons begin the week of September 8th. Please email art@mybesca.com with any questions. Orientations will take place in the Art Room 24 the following dates and times:
Monday, August 25th at 5:30pm-6:30pm OR Tuesday, August 26th at 8:20am-9:20am

🔹GARDEN ORIENTATIONS
If you are a new or returning garden parent, please join our Garden Leads, Rebecca Bitter, Amanda Halbacken, and Kristen Davidson, for ONE of the garden orientations.  Our Garden Leads will discuss the role of a garden docent in detail.  Orientations will take place in the Booksin Garden the following dates and times: 
TK-4th Grade Parents: Thursday, August 28th at 5:00pm OR Friday, August 29th at 8:30am
5th Grade Parents: Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:30am

🔹ALL DAY DINING FUNDRAISER
It’s time for Booksin’s first all day dining fundraiser of the school year! Looking for a tasty refreshment?  On Thursday, August 28th, head over to Gong Cha  located at 1087 Meridian Avenue #10, San Jose, for some boba tea, coffee, or a light snack, and they will donate 20% of all purchases from the entire day back to Booksin!!

🔹FALL PARENT SOCIAL AT HAPA’S BREWING, CREEKSIDE LOCATION
Kick off the school year with Booksin friends on Friday, September 5th, from 5:00pm-8:00pm, for our annual Fall Parent Social at Hapa’s Brewing Company (59 Barack Obama Blvd, 95110)! Tickets are $25 per person and include entrance into our VIP section, a beverage token, and snacks. Tickets are limited due to venue capacity and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Sales will close when tickets sell out or by Friday, August 29th at 10:00pm. Don't wait until the last minute, purchase your tickets in the BESCA shop here. See you there! 



🔹EARTHQUAKES GAME
Join us for a special Booksin Night at Levi's Stadium on Saturday, September 13, at 4:30p.m. The San Jose Earthquakes will be facing their rivals LAFC, for a very exciting matchup! Get your tickets early, by using the QR code below, to ensure you are able to sit in the section reserved for Booksin families. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to Booksin.
