Grade level Cornerstone parent will attend a monthly meeting to discuss the selected book, review the lesson materials, and exchange ideas for a classroom activity. The parent will come to the classroom once a month to read to the students and lead a discussion and activity session. Lesson months are September through May (no December).

Project Cornerstone is a program designed by the YMCA of Silicon Valley that teaches students strength, resiliency, an understanding of empathy, and valuable social skills. Their ABC Program (Asset Building Champions) brings caring adults into the classroom to share empowering lessons that foster emotional growth and academic success.
Parent volunteers become ABC Readers who meet with the Cornerstone lead once a month to discuss the selected book, review the lesson materials, and exchange ideas for classroom activities. Volunteers deliver the lesson to the classroom once a month, September through May. There is no lesson in December.
Volunteers must fill out a Project Cornerstone YMCA volunteer application and take the one time required Assets 101 Training. This online 3 part training is appx. 1 hour long. It is available at https://www.ymcasv.org/ymca-project-cornerstone/volunteers
All volunteers must be cleared through the district.
