ATTENTION RISING 6th GRADERS  & FAMILIES

Hello, families of rising 6th graders! As we cruise toward the end of the school year, many of us have our eyes on next year. With big changes on the horizon for your family, it is so important to access the resources offered to the West Hartford community. The WHPS, in collaboration with the Community of Concern, invite you to a viewing of Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age. In a world where technology is ever present and changing, we need every resource we can get! This documentary covers every type of technology our kids interface with on a daily basis. Please come join us for dinner, a movie and conversation on Thursday, May 2nd, 6-8pm, at King Philip Middle School. (Dinner provided, childcare available upon request.)

SCREENAGERS SYNOPSIS - Are you watching kids scroll through life, growing rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span at the expense of other interests and activities? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, the film reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
