Help us diversify Braeburn's classroom libraries! Contribute to the Diverse Book Giving Tree or buy a book to donate to your child's classroom!
Money raised will buy books that represent diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, families, and more.
By integrating more diverse literature into schools, we hope teachers and staff can use these books to give children a window into lives different from their own and grow their compassion and worldview.
For students of color, students with nontraditional families, LGBTQ students, and any other students who find themselves in a minority identity, we hope that they can act as a mirror and help all students feel valid and seen.
Diverse books could "help us understand each other better by helping to change our attitudes towards difference. When there are enough books available that can act as both mirrors and windows for all our children, they will see that we can celebrate both our differences and our similarities, because together they are what make us all human." (Rudine Sims Bishops, The Ohio State University, "Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors," originally appeared in Perspectives: Choosing and Using Books for the Classroom, Vol. 6, no. 3, Summer 1990.)
You can make your gift by sending a donation via Venmo to @Emily-Safino.
Braeburn School and Classroom Teachers, the PTB, and the EDI Committees thank you so much for your contribution!
