Mayor Announces Extended School Closure
Breakthrough closed through Friday, April 24
Distance Learning from March 24 to April 24
This afternoon, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced an extended school closure.
Breakthrough Montessori will follow DCPS and remain closed through Friday, April 24. Currently, we hope to re-open on Monday, April 27.
During the period of Tuesday, March 24 through Friday, April 24, students will participate in distance learning.
Breakthrough leadership anticipated this extended closure and has been working diligently to build out our distance learning plan. We will roll out different phases of distance learning to sustain students throughout this longer closure. You can expect further communication about our long-term plan by the end of next week.
Breakthrough remains committed to the wellbeing of our families, and we will continue to offer grocery support and other resources during this closure.
The health, happiness and development of each student at Breakthrough Montessori is our top priority. As a community of adults, let us look to our children as a source of light during this challenge. In the timeless words of Maria Montessori:
“Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future… Let us treat them with all the kindness which we would wish to help to develop in them.”
