Neill's Newsflash August 12, 2022
Mon, Aug 15 9:16am

Greetings BVE Families,

Congratulations! You made it through the first week of school! Our teachers are already into their instructional modes. Please help your child stay on top of their academic progress daily and spend more time reading and practicing math facts each day. We appreciate all of the supplies you have brought into the classrooms. Please remember that parents will not be able to walk down the halls to the classroom starting Monday, August 15th. This will help our students begin to master our rituals and routines on their own.

Student Tardy and Aftercare Late Pick Up Reminders:

If you arrive at school after 7:46 am, you will be required to get out of your car and sign your child in. Students will receive a tardy slip and lose valuable instructional time in their classes. After school, late pick-up starts at 2:41 pm. Your child will go into the building, and you will be required to sign them out. A late pick-up will result in going to aftercare that will cost the parent a one-time registration fee of $25.00 and a $15.00 fee.

School Safety:

We are practicing school safety daily. Our exterior and classroom doors remain locked all day. If you would like to come to the building, you will need to press the buzzer button located to the right of the front door and share the purpose of your visit. Our teachers carry walkie-talkies, staying in constant contact with our whole campus.

I look forward to seeing you and your family Monday, August 15, 2022. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at cammie_neill@dekalbschoolsga.org or 678-874-5903.

Car Riders

In an effort to help with our traffic flow in carpool and bus traffic, let us review a few reminders. Please plan your route to and from school so that you only turn right into the school property. The road by the Quick Trip on Briarcliff Road is Shepard’s Lane and will route you to Briar Vista Terrace.

  • Please do not block neighborhood driveways.
  • Do not pass cars or parents in the carpool lane, please be mindful of parents walking their children to the front of campus. Please drive slowly during carpool when entering and exiting our driveway.
  • We would like for all children to have their car seats on the passenger’s side, and ready to exit your car in order to have an orderly and safe dismissal.
  • If your child is not ready to be dismissed, please park and enjoy a great walk to the front door. It is important not to hold other parents up in the carpool lane.
  • Do not park on the sidewalk in front of the campus.

Morning DROP OFF may take place by entering the school property at the curb on campus for immediate drop-off, we will have our staff escort your child into school. DROP OFF starts at 7:05 am after the buses have been dismissed. Please have your child at Briar Vista at 7:30.

CARPOOL in the Morning stops at 7:40, our Class instruction starts at 7:45. Please Be on Time for School. If you are late, you must walk your child into the building, and sign in at the front office. Students arriving after 7:46 will be given a tardy slip to class which could impact student learning.

Afternoon PICK UP starts at 2:15, Ms. Vestal and staff will walk your child or children to your car. Please be sure to place your carpool number in the window of your car for pickup at 2:15. Our children are to stay with an adult, not run and remain in the area along the curb. Please help your child know his/her number and be ready to line up for arrival with all materials in hand. Carpool ends at 2:40 pm, your child will have to report to Aftercare and there will be a fee for each occasion.

Please DO NOT get out of your car. If you need to buckle your child in, please pull forward towards the parking spaces and do so. Getting out of your car impedes the flow of traffic and delays the dismissal process. Also, if at all possible, please allow your child to get in the car on the side closest to the curb.

Parents are to ensure dismissal with their child’s teacher. If you are picking your child up please go to the Walker Door. To help with safety concerns, have your carpool number handy. We will not be able to have students picked up in the front office, lower hall, or from the bus.

Thank you for keeping our carpool, bus arrival, and dismissal safe for all stakeholders. We are grateful to our Safety Guard Ms. Deborah for protecting our students when using the Crossing Guard.

Mask Guidance

Mask education project burgeons into creative remote teaching ...

Currently, in DeKalb County, the community level is HIGH. The CDC’s recommendations for this category include the following:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public spaces
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms
  • Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness

Based on recent data, a “HIGH” community level, and collaboration with our Medical Advisory Committee, the DeKalb County School District is STRONGLY ENCOURAGING all employees and visitors to wear masks indoors including all school district buildings, centers, facilities, and school buses or other approved modes of transportation. Masks are not required outdoors. DCSD will have masks available if needed.

Per Senate Bill 514, mask-wearing is optional for students in all DCSD buildings, facilities, and school buses or other approved modes of transportation.
