Welcome Back to School from Bugbee PTO
Mon, Sep 7 12:50pm

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Bugbee! We hope this email finds all of you and your loved ones well. In years past, the Bugbee PTO would welcome back both returning Bugbee families and those families new to the school. Since it’s been just shy of 6 months since any students--new or old--walked the halls of Bugbee, it feels like we are all new to Bugbee this year as we get ready for a school year like no other.

There are so many things that will be different this year--most of our events will not take place, many cherished traditions will have to be sidelined or possibly delayed to Spring 2021, and, when we are able to do things together, it will likely be virtual--but we know we need that sense of community we get from the shared experience of having Bugbee in our lives. The Bugbee community is fortunate to have creative, energetic support from our families and we know we will work together to come up with ways to still have fun and not let 2020 be a total bummer of a year. (Or at least we will try, we promise!) Please send us your ideas for safe, fun activities! Or join the PTO board for one of its zoom meetings this year!

The PTO plays an integral role in our school community in many ways, big and small. The PTO provides materials and activities to enrich the educational experience of our children both in and out of the classroom setting. You may have already seen one of our newest contributions to Bugbee--the outdoor classroom seating on the Bugbee grounds. There are many other ways the PTO “fills in” when there is a need at Bugbee. We provide scholarship funds for those who are unable to afford the cost of some school-based activities, we make sure Mrs. Burnett, the school nurse, has what she needs beyond medical supplies--snow clothes for those who do not have any in winter, backpacks for some who need help affording back to school supplies--the PTO even supplies water bottles for thirsty kids who come to Field Day or other events without. Typically, we would ask for PTO membership dues at this time but this is not a typical year. Some members in the Bugbee community asked about donations in lieu of membership dues. If this is something your family would like to do, we appreciate your voluntary contribution. For safety’s sake, all contributions may be made using your credit card via Konstella at:

Speaking of Konstella, the PTO will continue to use Konstella to communicate our messages and announcements on school-wide and classroom-wide levels, in addition to our newsletter which arrives via email. This is even true for those in our Bugbee family who opted for the remote learning option. We haven’t forgotten you! We are here for you whenever you return to Bugbee. Once a Bugbee bee, always a Bugbee bee!

The Bugbee community, along with the greater West Hartford community, has come through many different challenges in the last 6 months with thoughtfulness and resilience. The PTO facilitates productive communication within our school community. To this extent, we want you to know that your voice matters and when all of our voices are heard, together we are stronger. It is our hope we continue to nurture a Bugbee community spirit we are all proud to be connected with as we try to navigate this unconventional new school year. We are one community. One year. Together.

Please feel free to reach out for any reason; we love to hear from you!

With much appreciation,

Allison Freeman and Allison Saulsbury
