A HUGE THANK YOU! to everyone that has signed up. We really appreciate you for giving your time to help this wonderful group.
Please note we still need more hands to make this event possible! Please sign up and volunteers and show your student that giving to others is important. You can bring along a friend and grandparents, but please let me know if you will be, as we need to count for every helping hand.
In case of concern, all the food the students will be packing is vegetarian.
Today your child learned about Kids Against Hunger (www.kahfremont.org) and about the packing event that we will have on January 21st.
During our school wide packing event, our students will be volunteering a small portion of their time during school hours to pack non-perishable foods. Our kindergartners and 1st graders will decorate the meals bags with caring messages. The 2nd- 6th grade students will fill the bags with nutritious dehydrated ingredients. Each bag, when mixed with water, makes 6 nutritious meals. The packed meals are sent to the needy people, both locally and around the world. Our goal is to pack 15,000 meals that day!
Kids Against Hunger is a non profit group run entirely by unpaid volunteers that is focusing on feeding the needy people and empowering the kids, teen, and adults to be part of the solution. This is an excellent opportunity to show the kids that giving back to the world can start in our backyard.
To make this a TRULY successful event and to hit our goal we will be in need of 50 volunteers that day. The event will be in the am and time commitment will be from 800am – 1130am.
Please consider taking time off and showing our students that helping others matters.
The types of task that will be asked of the volunteers are the following, but not limited too, (we will train everyone on all of these tasks that day):
weigh: make sure each bag weighs 390 – 396 grams.
funnels: help catch the meals in the meal bag through the funnel
sealers: help seal the meal bags
Station Supervisor (monitor kids correct measurement, inventory control/replenish supply, and clean up stations) need to walk around and be able to carry heavy weight
boxers (need to carry heavy boxes)
runners for taking boxes to boxing station
transporter (need to lift heavy boxes to stack up in the truck)
to manage the schedule, sanitize kids hands, hair net/no phone
If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you in advance for donating your time for a worthy cause.
