PBS recently aired The Great American Read, an eight–part series that explored and celebrated the power of reading. It was designed to get the country reading and passionately talking about books. It explored what the top 100 books in America had to say about our diverse nation and our shared human experience. It then let participants vote for what the #1 book would be.
We would like to mirror this series at Charlotte Avenue School by investigating what the 50 most loved children’s books are among our community members. We will start by asking parents, staff, students and other notable community members to nominate their favorite children’s book and describe why they are nominating it. We will formulate a list of the top 50. Once these have been identified we would like to create entertaining and informative documentary segments and blogs with compelling testimonials from community members describing these stories.
From there, we will highlight these videos for our students in the hopes of getting them to expand their reading and explore new literature. Later in the year we will culminate the program by having students vote for Charlotte Avenue School’s #1 favorite children’s book. So start thinking about what book you will choose to nominate. Anyone in the Charlotte Avenue School community is invited to nominate books.
Nominations close on January 18th 2019
