Dear Chandler Unified School District Parents and Guardians,
The K-12 Educational Services Department has collaborated to provide our students with a learning plan which addresses our diverse academic pathways across the K-12 spectrum during the school closure. When developing the academic tasks, the following considerations were discussed:
Instructional focus of assignments to provide a baseline for teachers to enrich or intervene with additional resources
Consistency in assignments to allow for collaboration amongst teaching staff
Equity in the ability to print the assignments for distribution to provide access
Schedules of assignments and assessments to provide a structure for learning in the home
Management of time for those households that need to share devices with parents, guardians and siblings
The following are the designated learning pathways for elementary and secondary:
Elementary (Preschool-6th grade):
Using our adopted resources, K-6 teachers will be providing three assignments through e-mail each week of the closure in the content areas of English Language Arts and Math (6 total assignments each week). Each assignment is designed to be no longer than 35 minutes. K-6 teachers may provide enrichment activities to supplement the assignments. In addition to the three assignments for the two core areas, weekly assessments will be assigned to support the standards reviewed in the 4th Quarter. Preschool teachers will be providing a list of enrichment resources in addition to the monthly activity calendar. Preschool teachers will continue to focus upon the social-emotional connection with your child during the closure as we seek to meet the developmental needs of our youngest Chandler Unified students. Teachers will be collaborating with Special Education teachers and English Language Development teachers to ensure modifications or accommodations are made to the assignments to address individual student goals. You will be informed of the details of the assignments and resources through an email sent by your child’s teacher. Additionally, hard-copy packets of the assignments will be available weekly for families that do not have access to technology. Please communicate with your child’s teacher regarding the need for a hard-copy instructional packet.
Secondary (7th grade-12th grade):
We have asked teachers to plan short lessons that should take no more than 20 minutes to completing the 2-3 lessons per week. Teachers will be utilizing Google Classroom or Buzz to deliver instructional content, depending on the site. Specific resources and collaboration spaces were shared with secondary teachers. Teachers will be collaborating with Special Education teachers and English Language Development teachers to ensure modifications or accommodations are made for student goals for applicable assignments. You will be informed of the details of the assignments through an email sent by your student’s teacher(s). Additionally, hard-copy packets of the assignments will be available for students that do not have access to technology. Please communicate with your student’s teachers regarding the need for a hard-copy instructional packet.

Teachers will be available for online contact with students Monday through Friday during regular school hours to clarify content and provide answers to general questions. Our goal is to provide our students with a manageable, consistent set of assignments as a means of keeping our students connected to their school during this unprecedented event.
