Beautiful Rummage Sale

College Park Elementary

Every person holds a different meaning of beauty.  Yet some things may be universally considered beautiful.  Take for example, today’s blue sky and the beautifully executed College Park PTA Rummage Sale:  The sight was a heart-warming gathering of College Park parents with kids preparing and selling beautiful items to eager buyers.  Our principal Steven Chuang opened the campus at 6:30 am followed by rummage sale chairs Roxanne Jen and Jocelyn Peng with their family moving thousands of items from the multipurpose auditorium to the parking lot.  Check out the photos – wow!

By 8:30 am, College Park’s main parking lot turned into a sea of merchandise donated by benevolent College Park parents.  Neighborhood residents soon began arriving and buying and, by noon, 70% of the items were sold.  There were more items than a large dollar store could hold and some items were well beyond the scope of dollar stores:  There was a new, 18” Weber BBQ in a sealed carton;  there was an antique nun’s upright closet.  Over 50 pairs of beautiful, gently used shoes were donated and a significant number sold.  So much clothing – mostly beautiful and gently used – were bought.  College Park uniforms of varying sizes were on hand. Buyers were treated to a large selection of bicycles, scooters and even a cute, pink tricycle (it sold very early).   There was even a gently used warm water toilet wash – that’s a $300 to $500 item (Google it!).  Absolutely beautiful and generous donations of thousands of items, resulted in sales of $4,000.00, according to PTA financial secretary Cathy Szeto.

Roxanne and Jocelyn presented the rummage sale idea to College Park’s VP Fundraiser Helen Davis some months ago.  The VP was supportive, and planning began immediately.  The leaders secured consent from the school officials, arranged a tasty food truck, assured proper insurance coverage from our brand-new PTA insurance broker and, our cool rummage sale chairs brought water, coffee, donuts and bagels for volunteers!

The 2019 Rummage Sale exemplified the beauty of College Park’s PTA and established yet another grand reason our school is a California Distinguished School!
