End of Year Update from FMS for the 2019-2020 School Year
Wed, Jun 17 8:48am

Dear College Park and Bayside Families,

This letter is the annual end of year update from Friends of Mandarin Scholars (FMS) for the 2019-2020 school year. FMS is a non-profit, parent volunteer organization that supports the K-8 Mandarin education programs at both College Park Elementary School and Bayside Academy Middle School. For more details, please visit our website at mandarinscholars.org and stay connected through our Facebook page.

FMS Financial Summary: July 2019 – June 2020
A HUGE Thank You to everyone who supported FMS this past school year! It has certainly been an unprecedented year full of many surprises and uncertainties. However, with the strong support of our wonderful community we have been able to get through this year TOGETHER.

Please see below for a summary of revenue and expenses.

2019-2020 Expenses

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel our fundraising gala this year, resulting in a fundraising shortfall. FMS has worked together with Mr. Chuang to plan for the anticipated hybrid (in-person and distance learning) learning model for the next school year without impacting classroom support. This has resulted in the reductions of total Mandarin aide hours, which, combined with a rollover of planned but unspent expenditures from this year due to distance learning, has closed the fundraising shortfall gap for next school year. We will continue to work with the principal and make adjustments as necessary and may utilize our reserves, if needed. As the uncertainties with the COVID pandemic continues, FMS has made the difficult decision to NOT hold a gala next year. We will rely heavily on direct donations from our parent community along with corporate matching donations to meet our fundraising goals next year. We are confident with the support of our community, we will meet our fundraising goals and be able to continue to provide the necessary funding to ensure a quality Mandarin program to our students.

Our Mandarin program needs you! It’s not too late if you still want to make a donation today. We accept donations year round. No gift is too small to help support FMS and the Mandarin programs. And, if available, request a matching donation. You can see if your employer will match your donation here

FMS 2019-2020 events
We are very proud of the events FMS hosted for community building, fundraising and cultural awareness over the 2019-2020 school year.
