College Park Elementary

Dear College Park and Bayside Academy Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break! We would like to provide you with the Second Trimester Update for the 2018-2019 school year.

Fundraising Update:

As of March 31, 2019, we have raised $268,837 (115%) of our $232,500 fundraising goal, of which $150,000 was raised at the Gala on March 16th!

Thank you all for making the FMS Gala fundraiser a huge success! We would like to give a HUGE shout out to the Gala Team: Lena Yin, Cathy Szeto and Tammy Shueh for sacrificing their time, sleep and sanity to pull off this extraordinary event. Netting $150,000 is truly AMAZING! Of course none of this would be possible without the generosity of our many donors and sponsors and the hard work, support and participation of all our wonderful volunteers. Thank you everyone!

We would also like to send a BIG Thank You to everyone who has donated to FMS this year – through direct donations, corporate matches, Facebook Giving Tuesday, and our gift card fundraisers! Having exceeded our goal for this year, we will be able to fully support our goals at College Park and Bayside next year, as well as replenish our budgetary reserves, which have been depleted due to unanticipated increases in Mandarin aide salaries that were a result of the new teacher contracts negotiated between SMETA and the SMFC school district last year.

Don't forget you can help us GROW our reserves by seeking a corporate match for your direct donations, Fund A Need gala donations and your gala donations that exceed FMV. Check if your company participates in corporate matching by clicking on the link below and entering your company’s name here

We accept donations year round. If you’d like to contribute, make your donation today! No gift is too small to help support FMS and the Mandarin program. And if available, request a matching donation here

Additionally, congratulations are in order to the FMS Chinese New Year Parade team. The FMS Chinese New Year Parade marching team won first place in the Greater Bay Area Schools category again for the second year in a row!  The team worked really hard for that prize and we are so very proud of them. A BIG thank you to our parade coordinators: Sherry Tien, Dora Mok and Vivian Matsuyama. Thank you to all our hardworking students, Mr. Milburn, parent volunteers and chaperones.

Spending Update:
So far this year, FMS has supported the following through our annual raising from last school year:
College Park: All five Mandarin aides, the Chinese New Year Parade, and additional Mandarin teacher support.
Bayside Academy: All classroom enrichment activities (including instructors and supplies), the Yan Can Cook field trip, the subscription to the World Journal newspaper, the End-of-Year Celebration Performance, and additional teacher support.

In addition, we have been able to utilize funds donated by the Pauline Tao Trust to support the following:
College Park: iPads for the classrooms, curriculum coordinators to help implement the new school-wide Better Immersion curriculum, and new costumes and raincoats for the Chinese New Year Parade
Bayside Academy: Chromebooks for the classroom, and new enrichment class cultural costumes that will be used at the End-of-Year Celebration Performance.
