Math Club - Math Madness

The club is an after-school gathering to analyze competition style problems, followed by MathMadness competition, for students of grade 3rd through 5th.  Right now the group is open to 4th and 5th graders only until we find a volunteer to help out with 3rd graders during Wednesday meetings.

In addition to the regular after-school gathering, we will occasionally have guest lectures on habits of mind for young mathematicians.

3rd grade parents:
Please join MathClub organizer, Sungsim Park, in running the MathClub. Help organize tournaments, taking attendance, and be amazed by our kids.

We meet on Wednesdays 12:35p-2:00p in Room 18.  (The first meeting will be this Wed 9/25).

MathMadness is online math competition in the format of sports tournaments that runs from 9/25-12/18 if we go all the way to championship. For more information, please refer to https://www.aretelabs.com/math_madness/about.

During the problem analysis, we will focus on not just how to get answers, but how to approach a problem. The format will change somewhat week to week, but mostly the students will discuss and present problems in groups. I will, time to time, lead a problem solving if I find the problem renders particularly well for practicing mathematical habits of mind.

All 4th and 5th grade students are welcome to drop by.

Please review the welcome document, Files&Links/Wednesday MathMadness Team.
