Dear Community Park Parents and Caregivers,

As a newish CP parent (father of a first grader who started CP last year), it has taken me a while to recognize and appreciate the critical role and work of the Parent Teacher Organization (the PTO)—of which we’re all members. In a nutshell, the PTO facilitates and puts into motion crucial aspects of the CP experience for all grades-from Pre-K to 5^th-that accompany and support in-class instruction by our wonderful teachers. These include community events and celebrations such as the fall picnic (coming up on Sep 18^th!), the STEAM Day, the Science Fair, the annual book fair, the after school clubs, the Spanish summer camp, supplies and funding for teachers and staff, financial assistance for after-school clubs, the Parker Bear fund for low-income families, among many others. Please see the graphics at the bottom of this message detailing the budget breakdown of the various components of what the PTO did and achieved last year with your support. These events and initiatives not only provide the bedrock of the CP experience for students and families; they also serve as the primary engine of bringing us together as a community. In short, the work of the PTO is NOT a synthetic add-on to classroom instruction; rather, it is integral to making the CP educational experience special, substantive, and consequential.

But we need your support to make all this possible; this year the CP PTO MUST RAISE $60,000 to break even for our costs, which translates roughly into a contribution of $180 per student. Direct donations from parents and caregivers are the single most important source of revenue for the PTO. Can you make a contribution of $180? Though our ask (and need) is for $180, we request every family to consider giving what they can.

Estimadas familias de Community Park:

Como padre relativamente nuevo en CP (soy papá de un estudiante de primer grado que comenzó en CP el año pasado), me tomó un tiempo comprender y valorar el papel fundamental y el trabajo de la Organización de Padres y Maestros (PTO), de la cual todos formamos parte.

En pocas palabras, el PTO hace posibles y pone en marcha aspectos esenciales de la experiencia en CP para todos los grados, desde Pre-K hasta 5.º, que complementan y apoyan la enseñanza en el salón de nuestros maravillosos maestros. Entre ellos se encuentran eventos y celebraciones para nuestra comunidad, como el picnic de otoño (¡que será el 18 de septiembre!), STEAM Day, la Feria de Ciencias, la Feria del Libro anual, los clubes extracurriculares, el campamento de verano en español, materiales y fondos para maestros y personal, asistencia financiera para los clubes extracurriculares, el fondo Parker Bear para familias de bajos ingresos, entre muchas otras iniciativas.

Al final de este mensaje encontrarán gráficas que muestran cómo se distribuyó el presupuesto entre los distintos programas y actividades que el PTO llevó a cabo el año pasado gracias a su apoyo.

Estos eventos e iniciativas no solo son una parte fundamental de la experiencia de los estudiantes y las familias en CP, sino que también son una de las principales maneras en que nos unimos y fortalecemos como comunidad. En resumen, el trabajo del PTO NO es simplemente algo adicional a la enseñanza en el salón; es una parte integral de lo que hace que la experiencia educativa en CP sea especial, enriquecedora y significativa.

Pero necesitamos de su apoyo para hacer todo esto posible. Este año, el PTO de CP DEBE RECAUDAR $60,000 para cubrir nuestros gastos, lo que equivale aproximadamente a una contribución de $180 por estudiante.

Las donaciones directas de padres y cuidadores son la fuente de ingresos más importante para el PTO.

¿Pueden hacer una contribución de $180?

Aunque nuestra meta —y necesidad— es de $180 por estudiante, invitamos a cada familia a contribuir con la cantidad que esté dentro de sus posibilidades.
