Early Dismissal Day
Tue, Jun 4
Community Park School

February 21, 2024

Dear PPS Families, Students, and Staff,

As we look toward March and hopefully better weather, we are reviewing the PPS calendar for the rest of the school year.

I am happy to share that the Board of Education has approved an early dismissal day on June 4, formerly a district holiday, which will eliminate the need to have school during spring break. Many parents and staff members noted that it would be difficult and disruptive to do a make-up day in March during our scheduled spring break, March 25 to March 29.

As you may know, our elementary schools serve as polling locations on the June 4 election day. While students are not present in the parts of the buildings used for voting, we have plans in place for extra security precautions on that day. In past years, a relatively small number of people voted in our schools, but I think it is essential that we continue to have expanded and appropriate security on election day. There is no voting at Princeton Middle School or Princeton High School.

Using June 4 as an early-dismissal day is our best option, given that remote learning is not permitted unless there are three consecutive days of school closures. If we have another snow day–and I certainly hope this will not be the case–we would need to add a school day to the week of spring break.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide the best possible education for your children and a happy working environment for our dedicated staff.

Warmly,

Dr. Kathie Foster
Acting Superintendent
